Hell in a Hand Basket

If it has ever been a wonder to you or anyone you know, what is happening to this world some of us call home?  The answer may be much simpler than you think.  I, like many others, have our own ideas and no one can really say if we are right or wrong.  All that they can do is agree or disagree; having said that, here is why I think the phrase “hell in a hand basket” fits what’s happening to all of us right now.

Growing up in Brownsville, Tennessee, it was felt that each of us had a purpose.  Even though we did not know exactly what that was, it was an idea embraceable because it made each of us feel very special in our own way.  This feeling seems no more and either is it being taught to our kids who shall one day replace us as guardians of this planet.  We have become so self-centered and complacent that we no longer care what happens to our neighbor as long as what is going on over there does not spill over into our yards.

This is not only who we are NOT but goes against the very essence of what we are.  We desire to attend to our own house but we still possess a very strong desire to assist others in getting theirs together.  Take for example how we all came together with the Hurricane Sandy disaster or the Sandy Hook shooting.  We did not stand behind any ideological boundary but went well outside our comfort zone to insure that those suffering knew that they did not suffer alone.  This is what makes us who we are and separates us from all others who claim to be human but only look like it.

If we wish to regain control of this nation before that hand basket becomes our bread basket, we need to step out and up again.  Rally against those who say that we are better off separate than together.  Stand up for equal rights of all and not just a few.  Call out lairs when you hear them and applaud the truth when you see it.  We need to say no more to violence of any kind because no one has the right to place their hands on another human being regardless the reason.  We need to say no to drugs and those who push them even if they turn out to be our own government.  We need to lock arms and create a protective zone for our kids so that they will have a chance to grow and mature.  We must stand up to those who seem to have it all because if we really pay close attention to them, we will clearly see that they don’t.

Allow debate against your strongest held belief because if it is as solid as you proclaim, it will survive the challenge.  Allow others to have their opinions and do not fall for the reasoning that if they do not agree with you, they have to be wrong.  We began as a nation of God and quickly became a nation of money.  Turn back to the one and only person who can not only guarantee eternal life but happiness as well.  No human can absolve you of your sins and no human being can lead you through the pearly gates.  All any human can do is share with you their ideas on how to get there.  This world appears to be going to hell in a hand basket but that is only because we are too lazy or too scared to take back control.  Not control of each other but control of ourselves.  How else can any intelligent person ever direct change?
