Navy Yard Shootings offers another chance to get this right

Many people are asking several questions and some are so far off the mark, it’s comical.  I heard a commentator mention the security procedures at the Navy Yard as a reason the shooter was able to get in.  This is comical because anyone who believes that security measures will stop the evil that is rampant in this society is asleep at the wheel.  To address the evil of this world, there is only one place we have to go and that is to our knees.  Evil will only be eradicated once we are willing to face the fact that evil exist.

Some use the spectacle of those Colorado senators losing their sea after being recalled when they pushed “common sense” gun legislation through their congress.  This is laughable because they fail to see the entire story behind those lawmakers losing their jobs.  First allow me to inform and educate you that those jobs were not those law makers to keep or lose.  They were hired to do a job and they courageously did it.  It was the voters of Colorado who failed.  They decided to stay home and not stay alert.  They decided that the task of being diligent in their responsibilities was over once the bill passed.  They were wrong and now have given those providers of evil a leg up on thinking that they are stronger than they really are.  The voters gave evil a pass instead of keeping their hands on the wheel and the vehicle on the road.

Some mention that congress should act now to bring home “common sense” gun control but are weary because they though the murder of the children in Sandy Hook would make this happen.  Some are saying that it should have because it was children who were harmed.  I take this as fodder because they fail to see that any shooting whether single or mass, harms children.  A child will be missing their daddy, mother, sister, brother, uncle or aunt as a result of this evil even if they maintain keeping their lives.

Some say we need mental health databases so that those with mental health issues cannot get their hands on a gun.  I scoff at that because there are so many more steps necessary to make a difference.  There is the issue of a “straw purchase” where one can buy the gun and sell to another with mental issue.  There is the unnecessary need for automatic weapons by those who say they need them for protection.  If they are as proficient as they claim, you do not need 30 plus rounds to protect anything.

Voters, Congress and the public have a chance to get this thing right for once and those who vote to keep things as they are should fear voters who say enough is enough.  The truly sad thing is those parents who think that they are doing right by their kids will only come to see that the rules we look to now create and enforce would have come in handy when the dangers they do not see now introduces itself to them personally.  Too late to whine and want to change things then and evil wins again.
