The Supreme Court’s Devalue of our Democracy is the Best Thing

When the “Robert’s Court”/The Supreme Court, decided that it was time for them to return to their roots and clear the way for money to be the primary factor in any and all elections, it became quite obvious that the rights of the people were no longer of any concern.  Many are now dancing in the streets because in a world where ideas are supposed to be created in an effort to make life better for the American citizens and our judicial branch was established to make sure that true justice is blind.  The Robert’s Court has opened the door to a severe recount of that logic and turned this nation over not to those who would seek to better it for all but to those who will seek to better it for themselves.  This Supreme Court just handed this nation over and sold it to the highest bidder but is that really such a bad thing?

Let’s consider the argument as presented by Robert Barnes of the Washington Post in his article titled “Supreme Court strikes down limits on overall federal campaign donations”.  In it he informs us of many things and here are some of the highlights.  “The Supreme Court’s divisive decision Wednesday striking down a Watergate-era limit on campaign contributions was the latest milestone for conservative justices who are disassembling a campaign finance regime they feel violates free-speech rights.  “There is no right more basic in our democracy than the right to participate in electing our political leaders,” Roberts wrote in the court’s main opinion. “We have made clear that Congress may not regulate contributions simply to reduce the amount of money in politics, or to restrict the political participation of some in order to enhance the relative influence of others.” “If Citizens United opened a door, today’s decision, we fear, will open a floodgate,” Justice Stephen G. Breyer said. He added that the ruling “overturns key precedent, creates serious loopholes in the law and undermines, perhaps devastates, what remains of campaign finance reform.”

So understanding all that, why is this decision by the Robert’s Court the best thing that ever could have happened you ask.  It is the best thing because so many have fallen into the trap set by media and have come to believe that money is what wins votes and the more money you have the more votes you can buy.  All that is simply a lie.  It is the best thing because many believe that if you can buy local, state and federal races, stock those houses with your kind of people, you will get your kind of laws.  In the beginning they are correct and nothing proves that better than these past few laws passed by state legislators but in the long run, they are dead wrong and here’s why.

Those who are not afraid of their shadow and have fought for the rights of American citizens to choose their leaders are now rising up, banding together and joining the fight.  While many began a battle but quickly run out of steam, these titans are the very same ones who fought and bled so that you have your voice.  It’s the best thing because now it will be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that money buys fools and hypocrites, not real elections.  It’s the best thing because now poor people will finally realize that their numbers far outweigh and carries more power than any amount of money.  You want your democracy back then refuse to let anything or anyone stop you from exercising the right that veterans fought, bled and many died for.
