Why Bigotry and Prejudice may never die

Bigotry is defined as a person who is intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices while prejudice is defined as a preconceived judgment or opinion formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge.  These definitions goes a very long way in proving my point and providing the substances as to why I feel that bigotry and prejudice may never die.

People develop prejudice about almost everything and very few ever take the time to investigate to find out if the grounds for their prejudice are true or not.  The failure of Black America to take the time to learn the true essence of White America leads to prejudice of all whites just as when White America refuses to invest the time to find out if what they have heard or been taught is true about Black America.  The same thing happens with any group or section of our society when those who are not a part of it fails to seek sufficient knowledge about that group or section.  We often times rely on the experience of others to give us an insight into that group or section which is then used to form our opinions of them.

Because we relied on the experience of others to form our opinions we then promote those opinions as fact which in turns changes our prejudice into bigotry.  Bigotry manifest itself into the devotion of believing what you learned is true and even if the proof of the opposite is presented in ample measure, to change courses now would mean some kind of desecration of your principles.  You then make the final decision to stand by your previous convictions and will not allow anyone or anything to change it.  You convince yourself that what you are learning now must be a conspiracy or a trick to make you look like a fool.  Depending on how long you have carried these ideas and feelings will determine just how steadfast you must be in defending them.  This position often makes you seem unreachable to many and they often give up trying to educate you.  When you are left alone, your mind wonders if you could have been wrong all this time and only through the grace of God, some change and return to being acceptance of others while others never change.

Today’s youth may be our only hope to creation of a more perfect union because they are refusing to accept things as they appear.  They are now questioning more and investigating more.  They are taking the time to get to know others.  This may drop off for a while as they mature but those who had the drive then to question will soon return to that stage later on in their development which leads us to the major shift in policies.  The color of another’s skin does not deter them from trying to get to know another nor does their choice in who they love.  The see human rights as just that, human rights there for one and all.  Thank God for that because to be quite frank.  There are many in the Black community who are prejudice against others in the Black community for the very same reason.  They have never taken the time to get to know them except for the superficial.  Women cannot understand why Republican women are voting for bills that not only put bureaucrats between you and your doctor but was offering to put your boss there too.  African-Americans who lean Democrat cannot understand Republicans like Adam West, and Herman Cain.  Maybe someday we will learn from our kids and judge not lest we be judged.
