Al-Qaeda’s new number two times is up

According to an article written by Caren Bihan and Tabassun Zakaria of Reuters titled Al Qaeda number two killed in Pakistan this week, they reported that “Al Qaeda's new second-in-command was killed earlier this week in Pakistan, U.S. officials said Saturday, in a major blow to the group still reeling from the death of Osama bin Laden.  Atiyah abd al-Rahman, a Libyan national, rose to the number two spot when Ayman al-Zawahri took the reins of al Qaeda after bin Laden was killed in May in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.”

They say that this is not confirmed but if it is then while many may have forgotten about the reason given for the Afghanistan War, there are many who have not.  It appears that soon wars will be fought similar to video games so those who demean those who are quite good at those war games may want to re-think their position.  The best quote found in this article was that from a top US Official saying "Dialing back on al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan, especially while they try to regroup after bin Laden's death, isn't the way to go. For the sake of our national security, they need to be knocked out for good."  It appears that the number is 20 that the US military will be looking for to capture or kill from the Al-Qaeda camp whether they actually get them will be a subject for another time but to see progress being made in that regards is very encouraging.

Why this story wasn’t on the top story list for news agencies, one can only speculate.  Some think it is because no one wishes to give this president any credit for anything that he does or supports and others say that Hurricane Irene deserved the bulk of their air time.  Personally I say that it’s a little bit of that and also because this president does not go out of his way to take a victory lap.  I can only hope that this changes as we get closer to the election because I would really like to hear how those running in opposition of him would spin it.
