GOP may be losing favor among minorities at an alarming rate

If you have not read this article by Charles Johnson titled Last Straw for an African American GOP Supporter which can be found on www.littlegreenfootballs.com or in Newsvine, you really should search it out.  This article confirms everything that I have been saying about the direction of the Tea Party and many in the Republican Party.   In it he provides a letter from “a long-time Republican from Sacramento, Ken Barnes” who has just given up trying to belong to a party that really do not want him and only see him as useful when it comes to attempting to show that they are an inclusive party.

The main idea of this article and what many minorities need to heed is the question Mr. Barnes asks at the end of his letter.  “If this can be done to a black man who is the leader of the free world, how long will it be before fellow Republicans insert my face on a chimpanzee?”  One is lead to believe that a difference of opinion can be better handled in a civil and adult manner but to constantly see images depicted of a man who did not come of age with a silver spoon in his mouth only means one thing.  It’s not about where you come from or how hard you had to work to get there.  If you are in a position where you can actually affect change, you had better looked like they do or do what they say when they say it.

It goes back to the realization that “house slaves” had when they stopped being of use and start to be viewed as nothing more than a “field slave” who happened to work in the house.  For years the “house slave” thought that they were a peg higher than the “field slave” but when times got rough and slaves had to be sold, they found themselves on the block just as fast as those they held themselves superior to.  Those in the Tea Party and Republican Party are like those slave owners who have come upon hard times.  If you are a minority and useful, they will applaud you and slap you on the back, laugh at your jokes and donate to your campaign but as soon as you are no longer useful, i.e. former Republican Committee Chairman, Michael Steele or J.C. Watts, you are out of the door.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then please apply at your local Tea or Republican Party headquarters just make sure that you do nothing, like think for yourself or stand up for your beliefs, unless it is the same ones that they embrace.   As an African-American myself, I am so tired of trying to have an intelligent debate with people and when their arguments are no longer valid, their only retort is to make the disagreement personal.   It’s like the kid on the playground who is losing his debate with another so he turns the debate from how to correctly spell a word to jokes about his opponent’s mother.  Can we all just grow up?
