GOP primaries is nothing but an exercise in futility

The media is going gaga over who’s in and who’s out of the Republican primary run for their parties nomination, while we still face enormous challenges attempting to get those already in Washington to cease with the “mine is bigger than yours” attitude and get down to doing the people’s business.  While many of us have come to realize that the motto of the Republican party is still to do all that they can to make sure that this president is a one-termer, even if it means defaulting on our debts as a country or letting our people starve because the only bills we want to pass are those that assault women’s rights.  Go back and listen to the freshmen class’s campaign promises and tell me how many of them promised to take away a woman’s right to choose raises taxes on the poor and middle class or privatize Medicare and Social Security.

Out of those currently vowing for the nomination, it appears that only one really has any ideas as to what he could do if given the chance of becoming president.  That person appears to be former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.  I say that because so far he has been the only one who has even attempted to offer any solutions especially for jobs.  According to an article written by Kevin Begos and Philip Elliott for the Associated Press titled Santorum in White House race; 'In it to win', “Santorum, 53, has his own hurdles to overcome: He has been out of elective office since 2007 and lacks the robust fundraising or personal wealth of his likely rivals.”  I must say if that is his only issue then he will not have much of a problem with fundraising if he wins.  The Republican field should not concern themselves with who comes out on top; they need to pray that the hatred for Barack Obama is strong enough to get their voters to the polls.  You see, just like with the midterm, it’s not whose running or what they do when they are elected, its all about seeing this president fail at any cost.

There are plenty Republicans, Tea Party members, a few Independents and even some Democrats who are willing to sell their soul to the devil in order to accomplish this feat because that is how deep their hatred goes.  My fear is if they win, they will be so beholden to those who funded them that they will closely resemble those currently in State and Federal offices now.  They will promise much but deliver nothing.  It breaks my heart to see that as a veteran, I was willing to sacrifice my life for this country only to see it being dismantled by those whose elected officials are concerned less with protecting and serving its citizens as a whole and more about those who could afford to make large donations or hire lobbyists.  We can find the strength to cut education, fire teachers, policemen and firemen but we can’t find the strength to make America that shining beacon on the hill again.
