Washington DC should be re-named Tinsel Town East

To hear reports coming from those reporters keeping a close eye on what’s going on in Washington, you would think we were talking about Hollywood.  Hearing how difficult it is to get things done and decisions made would make you think that life is so very hard there.  It’s not and it’s about time someone said what many of us have been thinking for far too long.  Washington is full of drama kings and queens.

Take this debt reduction thing for instance, according to Andy Sullivan of Reuters he reports that the group meeting with Vice President Joe Biden is deadlocked over two items.  Two items, how that is possible.  That’s like spending six months in the cereal aisle of your local grocery store trying to decide which cereal to buy.  Not all Washington decisions may be easy but listen how Sullivan laid it out in his article titled “Taxes on the menu in debt reduction talks” and you tell me.  “Democrats say tax increases must be part of the solution but Republicans have refused to consider them on the grounds they would hurt job creation.  They also are expected to consider capping federal spending as a percentage of the economy. Federal spending is at 24 percent of gross domestic product, and a proposal that would cap it at 18 percent of GDP is gaining traction among key Republicans like Kyl. Liberals say that approach would prevent the government from responding to recessions and emergencies. Another proposal, which would cap spending at 20.6 percent of GDP, has drawn support of a handful of Senate Democrats as well as some Republicans.

The consistent lie bout raising taxes hurting job creation is running out of steam.  Had this been the case the taxes were cut in 2003 so where are the jobs that were supposed to be created?  Time for America and Americans to stop lying to themselves and saying this argument makes sense.  Time to get off your rear and get it in gear.  Call your award winning senators and representatives and demand that they stop screaming fire in a crowded theater.  Another common sense answer to capping federal spending is 24 percent of GDP is too high and 18 percent is too low, then any slightly educated person can agree that 20.6 percent is good enough to get it out of talks and on the president’s desk.   Why isn’t this happening, mainly because you know rating season is coming soon and all parties what to make sure they put forth their best blockbusters.
