The Supreme Court says No to the Women of Wal-Mart, or did they

I must admit, when I was first beginning to read this article, I immediately went to the thought that the Supreme Court had once again sided with big business like they did with the Citizens United case.  I was so wrong and I realized it only after actually reading this article instead of just scanning it.  The article that I speak of is the one written by James Vicini of Reuters titled Wal-Mart wins Supreme Court sex-bias ruling

What made me realize that I was wrong  was when I read that “The justices unanimously ruled that more than 1 million female employees nationwide could not proceed together in the lawsuit seeking billions of dollars and accusing Wal-Mart of paying women less and giving them fewer promotions” and “It accepted Wal-Mart's argument that the female employees in different jobs at 3,400 different stores nationwide and with different supervisors do not have enough in common to be lumped together in a single class-action lawsuit.”  It became very clear to me that the decision was not based on activist judges as I thought but on law itself.  Unless there had been offered a training tape used by those separate from each other to show a connection, there really could not be a favorable judgment for the plaintiffs.

What should be taken from this article or this action is expressed clearer than it ever had been before by saying that “Lawyers for the plaintiffs acknowledged the ruling raised substantial hurdles to bring such challenges forward but warned that Wal-Mart may regret this route because it could lead to lengthier litigation in many more courtrooms.”  Wal Mart may have dodged a bullet and stepped directly into the path of a grenade.  Now that all of these lawsuits can not be joined, they can be considered separately and if the judgment is a jury trail then Wal Mart needs to stand by for a massive hit to their wallets and it could be a much larger hit than the one that may have came from keeping all these lawsuits in one place.
