GOP defense of Big Business unites the America public

If someone had told me that ushering Barack Obama into the White House would eventually lead to more Americans coming together than many have seen in eons, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, I probably would have said that they were not operating from a full deck, I would be wrong.

The midterm elections were a time for progressives to declare that they were so very disappointed in Obama and many other Democrats that they were going to teach them a lesson and stay home.  Their base followed their lead and became missing in action at the polls.  This allowed the fringe elements to come together and elect those that they believed would be their friends and support the causes that they campaigned to believe in.  Now the State Houses are filled with Republican legislators and governors who showed their true colors almost immediately after being sworn in.  Their campaign for creating jobs gave way to an all out assault on women, unions, the middle class, the poor, seniors and soon veterans.  While there are a few who are still reeling from this betrayal, others are beginning to clearly see that a very big mistake has been made.  Cable news wants us to believe that these hideous laws being passed are about a few who are supported by big money, the cable news media has it all backwards.

These politicians, including those in Washington, are not making these laws with the support of big money; they are making these laws because of big money.  The most blatant and recent example of this is the “secret meeting in Vail, Colorado with the Koch brothers.  As reported in the Denver Post titled Koch brothers hold secret GOP business retreat in Vail, it was reported that “a spokeswoman for Koch Industries said, "The purpose of this conference is to develop support for the kind of free-market policies and initiatives that can get our country back on the path to economic prosperity and sustained job creation."  In other words, attendees of this meeting were instructed what other laws and things that big business wanted them to accomplish.  Big money is setting the agenda and the attendees are doing what they are told and being paid to do.  Cable news wants us to believe that we, the people, might as well give up because we can not fight fire with fire.  They have all of the money and we will never be able to match them dollar for dollar.  Cable news is so wrong.

What we have is far greater than big money, we have numbers.  Big money may blanket the airwaves with their messages but this pales in comparison to strength that doing the right thing has on those who will be the ones going to the polls at election time.  All that big business may be able to accomplish with their group of soldiers currently in office will be undone by the very people that they wish to control.  The American public is now very much awake and that is the one factor big business never counted on.  One activist said it best on the Rachel Maddow Show.  He said that he voted for those in the Ohio legislature and did not think that his friends would turn on him like they have.  This guy is a life-long Republican; his wife is a teacher and he a veteran and former police officer.  How sweet is that?
