The Misconceptions of a Party

If you have ever experienced when you hear something but are really not sure what you heard.  You tend to want to freeze the frame, rewind and play that entire scene again just to make sure you heard or didn’t hear what you thought you did.  That happened to me yesterday.

I was watching Politics nations with Al Sharpton and he had invited radio host Heidi Harris on to talk about the Eduardo Saverin story.  Now for those of you who might not know, Mr. Saverin is reported to be an immigrant who was in danger when this country took him in and provided him with shelter and protection.  Mr. Saverin invested in Facebook and because it was now going to make him millions, he decided to relinquish his American citizenship making many believe that he was doing that to avoid paying taxes.  Some on the left are all up in arms because of this perception while some on the right are calling this man an American hero.  Both sides are missing the point, in my opinion.

First, to you Democrats, do not make a law to combat one person and if you are going after him, you must also go after all of the others who did or are doing the same thing.  As for Republicans, I remember Wesley Snipes being hounded because he refused to pay taxes and so many calling him everything but a hero.  But the thing that made me do a double take was the comment that Ms. Harris made about what could be purchased with Food Stamps.  Now only God knows how Food Stamps got into the conversation but to hear her speak as if everyone on Food Stamps go around and buy junk food to enjoy while they sit on their behinds and do nothing, made me began to realize that this had to be the major thought pattern for all those who wish to cut this program.

Personally, I know that not all those on Food stamps just sit around eating Twinkies and Doritos and to hear people generalize like that provokes anger before understanding that they truly do not know what they are talking about.  Now don’t get it twisted, there are those out there who are only concerned with a free ride but to assume that the 10% is proof of the other 90% is just plain stupid.
