Antidotal proof of the haves and have nots

Nick Watt and Suzan Clarke’s article titled Cindy Jackson Sets World Record with 52 Plastic Surgeries, Cosmetic Procedures, is proof positive of why there is such a divide between the have and the have nots. The article reports that “Jackson, a Londoner who hails from the American Midwest, has had $100,000 in cosmetic, including 14 full-scale operations as well as cuts, pulls, peels and jabs. She's had Botox, five face-lifts and liposuction, and her eyes have been done – twice. In total, Jackson has had 52 cosmetic procedures, a world record for the most procedures ever undergone by one person” and while I am sure not many would begrudge her for spending her money on what she wishes, it begs to question why when so many of us are struggling to keep our homes and finding work. While in this day and age, $100,000 may not go far but I am sure many of us could think of far better ways to spend it than plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures. Still it is her money and she should be allowed to do with it as she wishes.
A part of this article may give us an insight as to why it is so important for her which was reported that “Jackson, 55, grew up in small town Ohio, with a short-tempered father and low self-esteem. She recalled a comment someone made to her when she was young: "One guy said when I was 14, 'You know Cindy, when you smile, from the side your nose and chin almost meet.” "It was like being in the wrong body and wrong face and I felt that very much and wanted to change it," she said.” Having to grow up with that thought of inadequacy in your head especially when its placed there by one of the most influential people in your life would probably clearly explain why yet one can not help but think that this money would have probably gone much further and made her feel even more empowered had it been used to help more than just one person. Just my opinion and I could be wrong.
