ESPN’s The Sports Reporters now have egg on their faces

Similar to the take of Jay Busbee from Yahoo Sports in his article titled  Rory McIlroy’s a good sport about losing the green jacket was the over-all feelings of those experts occupying chairs in Sunday’s ESPN show called “The Sports Reporters”.  To a person the conversation was all about Rory McIlroy and how much better he was than Tiger Woods.  Each depicted Tiger as a dried up old man that did not have a right to be on the same course as these young guns.  McIlroy’s drives and putting was compared and they even went as far as to question the heart of Woods.  Mr. Saunders who said nothing just sat there without challenging any of them and because of that action was viewed as agreeing with them.  McIlroy showed why he was not yet ready for prime time and those who proclaimed the air apparent should now be in the process of removing their foot from their mouths.

The article reports that “one day after Rory McIlroy's apocalyptic meltdown at the start of the back nine at Augusta, a span of three holes in which he surrendered six strokes and the lead he'd held since Thursday, McIlroy found himself in the presence of the green jacket after all, albeit on the shoulders of champion Charl Schwartzel.”  “It's entirely possible that McIlroy may gain almost as many fans with the graceful way he handled defeat, answering direct questions with a wry smile, as he would have with victory. We can't all know what it's like to win a green jacket, but we all know what it's like to fall short.”  While I must agree about the way McIlroy handled himself, I have to ask why these same sediments were not expressed by these same people for Woods.  Was it because he is expected to win every single tournament he enters and he is not allowed self-critic when asked about his game or could it be because so many have tried to live through him and when he does not live up to their expectation he can then be dismissed like some high priced slave?
