And the will of the people be done

While I can understand why President Obama wishes to step back and allow Senate and House leaders to be leaders, I was excited to hear some of the quotes attributed to this president by David Espo, Associated Press Special Correspondent in his article titled Obama presses Congress to avoid shutdown.  No grown man or woman wishes to treated like a child or have their integrity questioned so stepping back allows them the opportunity to demonstrate that they are adults but when this type of need drags on and on because neither wishes to play with the other, it is time for an adult to step in and say enough.  Obama stepped forcefully into the dispute, at times sounding like an exasperated parent.
He convened a meeting at the White House with the chief congressional antagonists, rejected a Republican proposal for an interim bill with sharp cuts and then announced Boehner and Reid would meet later in the day.  If they can't sort out their differences, he said, "I want them back here tomorrow."  And if that doesn't work, he added, "we'll invite them again the day after that. And I will have my entire team available to work through the details of getting a deal done."  Obama said he would sign an interim bill only if one were needed to get the paperwork together on a broader agreement and pass it through both houses.”

I do not have any insight into the negotiations nor am I privy to the back and forth but when it comes to doing the people’s business, playing school yard games is not what anyone was hired to do.  No group or individual should ever expect to get everything they want when it comes to compromise but refusing to do so only makes stupidity the word of the day instead of rectification.  No politician should be convinced that they are entitled to a life time election to any of the people’s seat.  They need to understand that if they go there and do the job that they were hired to do and be completely honest with the voters, they may just spend many years in that job.  Real Republicans never dismissed compromise when it came to getting their business done but it seems that this new group wants their way or no way and no way help no one and solves nothing.  If we want a group of people occupying those seats to do nothing, then we should nominate a bunch of monkeys.  Sometimes true leaders know when its time to step aside and allow those who are not afraid to take the lead.  In the Marines we used to have a saying, either lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.
