Racist email could be indirectly tied to the recent Trump birther’s rants

Lawrence O’Donnell from the Last Word on MSNBC was speaking about the damage that Donald Trump could be causing with his newly regurgitated spin on President Obama’s birth certificate or lack there of.  I had not given it much thought until I came across this article written by Gillian Flaccus of the Associated Press titled Head of OC GOP says email sender should resign and learned that “Marilyn Davenport spoke publicly for the first time Wednesday and said she considered the email depicting Obama as a chimpanzee political satire — not racism.  The email depicts Obama's face superimposed over the baby chimp's and the text under the image reads, "Now you know why — No birth certificate!"

The article further reported that “Davenport, who is serving her fourth two-year term, acknowledged that she didn't send the email to some friends because she felt they would be offended. She added, however, that she only saw the image as political satire about "all that's going on with (Obama's) birth certificate."  Knowing that it may be offensive to others and using that as reason not to send it to them should have leaded the average person to surmise that it was offensive and therefore inappropriate.  This did not stop her and really what’s a little racism among friends?

While the article stated that “the head of Orange County's Republican Party is vowing to keep up the pressure on a local GOP official to resign for sending an offensive email about President Barack Obama.”  This will not be the end and it will not stop with her.  She was elected to that position and those who voted for her must now be willing to accept responsibility for her actions.  She has been placed in that office four times and apparently shares the views, private and publically, of those who elected her.  Getting her to resign without holding those who elected her accountable only means that the next person they choose will not be so obvious about their objections of having the first African-American president.  So Satan goes back in the closet instead of exposed to the disinfecting power of the sunlight.  Is this really how we intend on finally getting this country past one of its darkest eras in our history?
