Awaking the Tiger

In Tom Kinslow’s Bleacher Report article titled Masters 2011: Ian Poulter Takes Shot at Tiger Woods, Was It Uncalled For? I found myself agreeing with much of what he wrote.  No one puts it better than Mr. Kinslow and I wished I could’ve said these things first.  The drama of the Masters may be something of seeing which golfer will play their best game and come out on top but the real money is watching Tiger Woods and seeing where he ends up.

Mr. Kinslow quoted Ian Poulter saying “Woods won't even finish in the top-five according to the BBC. However, he didn't stop there as he continued to rip into the man who used to be the most dominant player on the tour.  The shots he [Woods] was hitting at Doral, they were very inconsistent," Poulter said according to the BBC report. "You can't afford to hit shots like that round this golf course and get away with it."  I do not think that Ian was asked about Tiger to get his professional opinion on another superstar because of what was revealed in this article “The last time I checked, Poulter doesn't have a win in a major tournament to his name.”  He was asked to provide just a little bit more drama to the stage as if the Masters themselves was not drama enough.  It seems that many reporters and interviewers have missed there calling when it comes to certain sports or seeking answers from certain characters.  Seeking to find drama should reside in Hollywood and not Augusta.

All of this may just be a mute point though if Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports is correct in the article he wrote titled Tiger chasing the game’s future stars.  Just as the kids tried to streak golf right into their future, here came old Tiger Woods to remind them that the Masters is still going to run through him. They didn’t need to check the leader board to know what was happening or who was coming The fan reaction to Tiger on a tear is an unmistakable, impossible to ignore crescendo.”  If this scenario persists, there will be plenty of drama on the golf course and we will not need any off the course to keep eyes glued.  Tiger Woods has always been good for the game of golf but if he maintains this course and wins another green jacket, this sport will explode because the young guns shooting for him will always be a game worth watching.
