The lesson from Donald Trump

The lesson Donald Trump is offering to us is simple.  If you wish to get a lot of press, say something that has been disproven and watch the sparks fly.  As long as the media is gullible enough to keep following you around and sticking a microphone in your face, you will have your 15 minutes or more of fame.

The sad part is that fawning after them only takes away from legitimate contenders like Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney and maybe Mike Huckabee or Haley Barbour.  People who might just have solutions to the nation’s problems instead of trying to win the day with extreme sound bites.  Interviewers need to be forced to ask individuals like Trump and Bachman what they would do in every situation facing President Obama instead of allowing them to spew lies and not be challenged on them.  We all have heard of the adage that history repeats itself and we all should know that this will happen mainly because we refuse to learn the lesson the first time around.

If media wishes this to stop then all they have to do is force them to honor truth in their interviews instead of trying to get ratings.  Make news by forcing those you interview to take a stand on something instead of dodging.  Journalist, reporters and commentators should hold themselves to a higher standard since what they put out is consumed by those they reach.  They are much the same as a manufacture of consumer products.  The similarity is what they both produce may cause health concerns except one is regulated and the other appears not to be.
