Governor Rick Scott of Florida and his magic money

I had been saying this for quite some time and it seemed as if no one was listening.  Well I’ll say it again and this time shows you the proof.  None of these states or the federal government is broke.  There is plenty of money to take care of its citizens and they all know it.  The problem is that some are allowed to get away with paying nothing (Corporate America) while others are being charged double (the American people).  Politicians have taken the money and used it in other places only to find that when the tab is due on the item for which they got the money for, they panicked and cut some place else to pay that bill.  My proof is the magic money that Florida’s governor Rick Scott and his lawmakers suddenly came up with when the fire got a little too hot for him.

The evidence is clearly presented in an article by Kate Santich of the Orlando Sentinel titled Governor Rick Scott and lawmakers reverse funding cuts to disabled.  This article reads “Governor Rick Scott announced late Thursday that he has worked out a deal with lawmakers to reverse some of the deep budget cuts he ordered two weeks ago to the state agency that helps the developmentally disabled.  Scott had ordered the cuts to caregiver rates March 31 and made them effective April 1, stunning providers, their disabled clients and their families. Provider reimbursement rates through the state's Agency for Persons with Disabilities dropped 15 to 40 percent overnight, and many nonprofit organizations that serve those with disabilities began cutting their staff, salaries and benefits.
Some nonprofits said that unless the funds were restored, they would be forced to close their doors.
Scott defended the move, saying it was necessary to prevent the state Agency for Persons with Disabilities from running out of money completely in mid-May, several weeks before the fiscal year ends June 30.”

The question is simple.  If this program was going to run out in mid-May which would justify his cut, why did this money not appear until after he made his demand and before he started to feel the heat?  Simple answer, the money has and always will be there but they were going to use it to cover something else.  We all need to wake up and force an independent unbiased audit of the entire situation.  We need to demand to see the real books kept by these states and not the ones they put on public display.  If this sounds like I am calling these elected leaders on the carpet for “creative accounting”, you are so very right.
