Afghanistan War may be finally coming to an end.

It appears that another campaign promise may soon become reality as assumed from the possible recommendation of General David Petraeus as written by and Associated Press article titled Petraeus: first US cuts will include combat forces.  In testimony before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday, Army Gen. David Petraeus was asked about his planned recommendation to President Barack Obama on troop reductions this summer.  Petraeus said he is still formulating his recommendation but believes that "some" combat forces will be included.”

Yet still some members of congress are still a little confused such as Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine who is quoted as saying "On the one hand, we hear the president — and Gen. Petraeus has repeated it today — that we're going to start withdrawing our troops this summer in order to underscore the urgency and undermine the Taliban narrative that we're going to be there forever,"  "On the other hand, both of you have said how important it is that ... we do need a long-term relationship. I would just suggest that I think that's part of the confusion that we see reflected in the polls about exactly what is our long-term strategy."  My thought about this situation is that if you use a poll to determine which side of the issue you should come down on only means you are subjecting yourself to those who formulate and run those polls.  If you really want to do what is right, consider those fighting as more than mere pawns on chess board, and consider them humans.

We took our eye off Afghanistan for 7 years and did not think twice about the lives we left there, now that we are thinking about ending this war and bringing our troops home, congress becomes confused.  Those there are more than just my fellow brothers and sisters in arms, they are people with dreams and aspirations who may be seeking more than just a 70 pound pack, wearing Kevlar gear and dodging bullets.  They may have hopes of one day having a family, watching their kids grow up and either finding or creating a decent job making a decent wage.  You know, some of the things that you think about.
