Why some Cable News shows are better than others

It’s time to be real about the small number of political junkies in the country.  I believe those numbers could be greatly increased if cable news shows would adopt one simple change in their presentation of the news. They all present the same news every show and after a while, it becomes not as interesting as it was when it first aired.

Many cable news shows think that bringing on the same or a different guest than the previous one will somehow make the story better or more interesting.  It seems that they believe that by providing a different take on the subject, they provide the public with a different view.  That is not the case and to some viewers who seek more from cable news, they are being completely disappointed.  Yes I am a political junkie but I am also human and a few other stories that may not have anything to do with political news could be the difference between increasing your viewership and ratings.

Take for example Countdown with Keith Olbermann.  Even though I disagreed with his take on some political stories, I still tuned in every day to hear it as well as the other stories that he would cover.  Keith made me feel a part of the general audience by bringing to light the Ted Williams Story as well as the stories of those truly affected by the decision of Governor Jane Brewer of Arizona.  Even though he did have political pundits on, every once and a while he would interview real people.

We are all quite aware that so much news happens that many producers have to choose which are top stories but long after the top stories have been aired, there has always been room for a few others which may not be tops in their category but may be worthy of viewers tuning in just to hear them presented by those favored by them.  I love the Rachel Maddow Show mainly for her presentation of the political news because she asks guest to critic her openings for truth before she begins grilling them.  She will sometimes throw in a story that no one else has covered all day long and that in itself is another reason you stay glued to her show.  I am also aware that cable news is mostly designed for political junkies but I do not believe that throwing in a few other stories during the time you are live would hurt and to be honest, it may even help.  That’s just my opinion and I could be wrong.
