Middle East protests remnants of the War of Independence and the Civil Rights Movement

The recent events and currently on-going struggles of a people to regain the respect and demand the rights of any human being is being played out in real time all over the Middle East and even right here at home.  Seeing this drama playing out has reminded me of this same thing happening long ago when this nation itself began to form.

I equate this to remnants of the War of Independence 1775 – 1783 because one of the main causes was the very strong desire of those occupying this nation to break from Britain rule.  One of the main causes were the  fact that many felt the Empire was making decision which did not have their best interest at heart.  This appears to be somewhat of the same sediment which flows through out the Middle East currently.  It is the same feeling which I believe drives those protestors in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and other states in this union.  Those that they choose to represent them are not heeding their advice of what they need to remain productive and successful and assumes to dictate what they think they want.  While some of these protestors are keeping to a non-violent theme, there are others who seemed to have been forced to defend themselves with more than just rocks and bottles as in Libya for example.  The Libyans have taken up arms for their defense and this was the dame action taken in our War of Independence.

What makes these remnants of the Civil Rights Movement, which dates from 1955 to 1965, is the desire and demand for equal rights for all citizens regardless of creed, color, sex, national origin or religion.  They wish to have a voice in choosing who their leaders are and which direction that their country is headed.  It is also similar to the Civil Rights Movement because it was primarily non-violent and while some seekers of democracy have been forced to defend themselves, in America the Civil Rights Movement stood prominently non-violent.  There were other groups that formed separate from the movement that did preach self-defense and in some instances took up arms as well. The apparent difference is these actions are also being described as a revolution and where the War of Independence took 8 years to complete and the Civil Rights Movement took 10, many of these new revolutions may not take as long.

The ultimate reason behind them resolving this dilemma faster than we did is because of the wisdom we obtained from going through this so long ago.  These new revolutions will have the opportunity to learn the mistakes made and successes had by this nation as they strive for freedoms that Americans have had for so long that we often take them for granted.  They shall be educated in our past, assisted in their present and supported in their future.  Theirs will then become the example of what can be accomplished by working together instead of apart and the premier cast for those who wish to follow.
