The new Libya is beginning to take shape

As previously suggested in my last article on this subject, I believed that the freeing of Libya would take the interventions of military commanders and soldiers who have defected from the Libyan Army.  It appears that the pro-Gadhafi fighters have just learned that those they thought may have been an easy foe has become much more than they anticipated.

Associated Press writer Maggie Michael’s article titled Libyan rebels celebrate win in battle near Tripoli, says more about this than I could ever voice.  It reported that “residents of the rebel-held city closest to Libya's capital passed out sweets and cold drinks to fighters Tuesday and celebrated with a victory march after they managed to repel an overnight attack by forces loyal to longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi.”  “The rebels have been fighting to consolidate their gains as the international community weighs new moves to isolate the longtime Libyan leader, including the possibility of creating a no-fly zone over Libya.”  The winning strategy was part military know-how and best voiced by a witness to Gadhafi’s fighters defeat.  "We will not give up Zawiya at any price," said one witness. "We know it is significant strategically. They will fight to get it, but we will not give up. We managed to defeat them because our spirits are high and their spirits are zero."

Egypt protestors won heir freedom with rocks and bottles while Libyans may win theirs with tanks, machine guns and anti-aircraft guns but each had one thing on their side with far outweighed any weapon held by their opposition and that was the will of its citizens and being on the side of right.  These protests that are happening all over prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that violence is not the only means necessary to make change.  As this protest in Wisconsin and other American cities are showing as well.  These governmental miscalculations may have started with just picking on a few but it has now grown to the government learning that when you pick on a few, you pick on us all.  I look for Libya to be free of Gadhafi real soon and then a shaping of a new government with its military already in place will emerge from those ashes.
