Kentucky woman can not escape torture past

Twenty years is a long time to be “on the lam” but if this article written by Bruce Schreiner and Brett Barrouquere for the Associated Press titled Torture charges shatter Croatian's quiet Ky. Life teaches us anything, it’s that the long arm of the law is also unforgiving and tireless.

It reports that “the arrest of a Croatian woman in small-town Kentucky for alleged war crimes two decades ago in the former Yugoslavia "brings her long run from justice to an end," a U.S. marshal said.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert E. Wier appointed Azra Basic, 52, a lawyer Thursday and ordered her held without bond pending an April 1 status hearing. Prosecutors argued that no bail amount would guarantee Basic's presence in court.  Federal agents arrested Basic (pronounced BOSH) on Tuesday” and the words of U.S. Marshal Loren "Squirrel" Carl frames it best.  "This brings her long run from justice to an end," Carl said.

Escaping one’s destiny is one thing but to try and remain hidden in the dark and avoid responsibility for actions taken can be as fruitless as a barren fruit tree.  The saddest part about this whole situation is that no only did the decision made by Basic many years ago affect those she allegedly tortured and their families but the time she spent hiding now affects those that came to see a completely different side of her.  She now offers neighbors and those who knew her after those acts a suspicions of anyone else who will try to do right by them.  Distrust will be the main course for those in that small Kentucky town now and only God knows how long it will be before they truly trust anyone again.

It is a wish that the lesson from this article informs all of us that what you do will be brought to light and no bad deed goes unpunished so if you wish only good things in your life, you must strive to fill that life with only good things.  Achieving fame or fortunate while standing on the backs and necks of another will only result in one day feeling that same pressure being applied to you.
