No Fly Zone causes a recalculation of strategy by Gadhafi forces

Before I even get started, I must first inform all that I am in no way a mind-reader or sage of any kind.  I am however able to see more in a rose than just the fact that it’s a flower.  Recent events and news articles have made me come to a conclusion that the primary plan of Gadhafi’s forces has been dealt a serious blow by the UN resolution of a no-fly zone combined with the approval of using any force necessary to protect Libya’s civilians.

The first indication of this was the report from an Associated Press article titled 4 New York Times journalists found in Libya.  In this article it is revealed that the journalist were “captured by forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi” it further reported that “the last contact with these journalist had last been on Tuesday and that they will “be released Friday.”  This information leads me to believe that it had been the plan of Gadhafi forces to hold on to these journalists to record their successful crushing of the rebels and if everything had gone as planned, they may have succeeded.  Now that the resolution has been agreed to and several countries are poised to intervene, a recalculation is prudent to avoid getting their bell ranged by a much stronger, disciplined and experienced multi-national force.

Another point which helped create this scenario in my mind was and article written by Hadeel Al-Shalchi and Ryan Lucas for the Associated Press titled Libya offers cease-fire after UN no-fly zone vote.  The key piece of this article was “With the international community mobilizing, Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa said the government would cease fire in line with the resolution, although he criticized the authorization of international military action, calling it a violation of Libya's sovereignty.  "The government is opening channels for true, serious dialogue with all parties," he said during a news conference in Tripoli, the capital. He took no questions.”  This is key because no long before this it had been reported that Moammar himself had promised plenty of bloodshed and one of his sons had promised that this rebellion would be over in a matter of 24 hours.  This regime went from taking no prisoners to wishing to talk seriously with all parties.

What does this really mean is that after Gadhafi’s forces have had an opportunity to comb through the entire resolution, they will not be too quick to formulate any plan?  They will be looking for any loophole to complete what they started but if the resolution is as sound as it appeared through the news media that will be a tough row to hoe for them.  The fear still remains if the rebels are allowed to create their own haven or remove Moammar Gadhafi and his minions totally, will they become just another vacation home for al-Quada?
