There may not be a quick fix for Japan but there is plenty of opinion

What started out as a very educated day for me reading this article by Eric Talmadge and Mari Yamaguchi of the Associated Press titled No quick fix seen at Japan's nuclear plant quickly turned into a day of dismay.  The article explained what appeared to be a reality that some commentators refuse to accept.  It reported that “ideally, officials believe it should only take a day to get the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear under control once the cooling system is up and running. In reality, the effort to end the crisis is likely to take weeks” as stated in what was quoted as being said by Hidehiko Nishiyama of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency who said “We have experienced a very huge disaster that has caused very large damage at a nuclear power generation plant on a scale that we had not expected".  It also reported another reality that readers should come to understand by adding that “in another setback, the plant's operator said Monday it had just discovered that some of the cooling system's key pumps at the complex's troubled Unit 2 are no longer functional — meaning replacements have to be brought in. Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it had placed emergency orders for new pumps, but how long it would take for them to arrive was unclear”.

These were realities that one in search of the truth could wrap their heads around and not expect that which may never come in the time frame first put forth by those we trust to give us the news.  That was when I was begin looking for other trusted sources to provide me with a dose of reality as well as maybe get a more detailed understanding of what my fellow human beings from another country would be facing.  As I channel surfed for a different prospective, I did not receive any new information but heard a lot of opinions disguised as expert knowledge.  This expert knowledge was mainly the commentators’ attempting to prove that the need for nuclear power was not enough to justify the cost.  The commentator was allowed to tell listeners why we should not have nuclear power instead of giving his expert opinion on how long it makes take to make it safe.  There are times for opinion involving world events and even local ones but to have it wearing the clothing of expert knowledge leaves a lot to be desired.  It is time for the media to separate fact from fiction and leave us with reality instead of a myth.
