Peter King’s committee may be more about self-aggrandizing than solutions

Case in point, take a look at the photo accompanying Associated Press writer Eileen Sullivan article titled  King: 'Rage and hysteria' over hearing unwarranted.  The name plate is extremely large and can not be missed, now while this may be the same size as other chairmen and women of other committees, it does make one wonder since the exposure has been so great on this subject.  While I must admit that there is a serious need to dissect this issue and see if we can not find some intelligent way to deal with it, the time, money and effort spent on this by congress could be better spent bringing those responsible for gambling with this nation’s economy to some sort of justice instead.

According to this article “Rep. Peter King, the New York Republican who called the hearing, says the American Muslim community is not doing enough to speak out against terrorism and is reluctant to help police.”  That is not the case, if anyone would take a few minutes to check they will find that in predominately Muslim communities all over this country, Muslim-Americans have done nothing more than to aid law enforcement in spoiling more threats than is being reported by the news media and some disrupted plots don’t even make it to the local news stations.  While Mr. King is right when he was quoted as saying “Homegrown radicalization is part of al-Qaida's strategy to continue attacking the United States” what he missed was that this is the modish operandi (mode of operations) for al-Quada all over the world and this fact is not lost on those whose job it is to detect and disrupt this trend.  And I think that the best expression of the results of such a hearing like this can be simply encapsulated in the words of Rep. Bennie Thompson, the top Democrat on the committee also taken from the article "I cannot help but wonder how propaganda about this hearing's focus on the American Muslim.”

We need our elected officials to spend less time chasing a really moral question and more time figuring out what happened to this great nation, taking steps to insure that it will never happen again and bringing those responsible to justice because without holding someone accountable for the actions that cause this travesty, the lesson will not be learned and history will repeat itself yet again as it did this time because we did not learn from the Great Depression.  Just my thoughts I could be wrong but I don’t think so.
