Egyptian protestors demand for a new government starting to take shape

All hail the power of the people and what can happen when the people band together and make their one voice heard.  It takes those governed to come together and speak if they wish to have any say on how they are governed and according to Associated Press’ Sarah El Deed and Maggie Michael article Egypt regime offers new concessions to opposition, this happen Sunday.  Egypt's vice president met a broad representation of major opposition groups for the first time Sunday and offered new concessions including freedom of the press, release of those detained since anti-government protests began nearly two weeks ago and the eventual lifting of the country's hated emergency laws.”  “Vice President Omar Suleiman offered to set up a committee of judiciary and political figures to study proposed constitutional reforms that would allow more candidates to run for president and impose term limits on the presidency, the state news agency reported.”  “Mubarak has pledged publicly for the first time that he will not seek re-election. The government promised his son Gamal, who had widely been expected to succeed him, would also not stand.”

With what seems to be all of the demands requested by the protestors offered, one would then think that this will soon be over and the Egyptian people can move on with their lives and forever know that it was the will of the people who won the day except also according to the same article there are those who wish to keep adding fuel to the fire and are not willing to fully comprehend the enormity of what has been accomplished by those who took to the street to take on their government.  The sticking point "People still want the president to step down," said Mostafa al-Naggar, a protest organizer and supporter of Mohamed ElBaradei, a Nobel Peace laureate and one of the country's leading democracy advocates.  The outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, the country's largest opposition group, made a similar statement after its representatives attended the meeting.  "We are determined to press on until our number one demand is met," said Khaled Abdul-Hameed, a representative of the protesters.”

It was reported that a vast majority of protestors took to the reports of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement in this country as inspiration for their march and if they did, they surely forgot one important lesson.  The change did not happen in one day nor did it take one year.  Major concessions were made by both sides and this is what must happen here.  This concession began with a dialogue, then legislation and now enforcement.  The dialogue took a number of times and the legislation took years but the enforcement is still on-going today but this nation (America) is the better for it.  So shall be the same for Egypt but the opposition must also be willing to take Mubarak for a few more months in order to get the government that all free people deserve.  It’s a small price to pay for the future of a country which is bound to the future of so many other countries globally.  It’s a step that they take now which will make the lives of their children and grandchildren so much more the richer.
