The President’s Budget and the Media’s need for Controversy

We all know that those who oppose his president will never agree with anything that he does and it surprises me when that it surprises those who attend Washington for a living act surprised.  I view all of this from one simple prospective and that is what is good for the nation as a whole is what we should be embracing.  How we get there is a decent and needed debate but should never stop us from getting there.  Who gets us there is less important.

Today I heard something that I haven’t heard in such a long time and it made me smile.  The news journalist was questioning someone from the White House about a talking point raised by the previous opposition speaker.  It was asked why the President’s budget did not include anything about a particular subject, the White House representative corrected the journalist and reminded them that what they say was not in the budget actually was.  I can understand a party determined to win more seats in congress and take back the White House being so focused that they refuse to acknowledge anything contradictory from their position of seeing this president as a one termer but I am disappointed that it is also prevalent with the journalist that we trust to give us the whole story.

The journalist speaks about the social security and Medicare angle as areas not touched by this budget but where were these same journalists when the wars were not included in the overall calculations for those years prior.  The Iraq War is over and soon the funds used to pay for that war should be coming back home, if the focus remains clear and the Afghanistan War ends as projected, that money too will be coming home along with our troops.  What happens with the deficit then and would those agencies which now may be cut?  Would we then have the lower deficits and the budget surplus to bring them back?  This is just a few things I would like to know instead of how the opposition feels about anything this president or his administration odes or may do.

We will always find those who are willing to feed this beast of division but what I would love to see is those who are willing to starve it.  The politics of Washington may only poison the politicians but it seems now to be fueling the beltway media as well.
