Now could be the time for Energy Independence as the fight for equality spreads

I am sure that I join many Americans who see the turmoil in Egypt as an unspeakable act by those who wish not to honor the will of their people and harm, injury and kill their fellow Egyptians in order to stay in power.  I guess Egypt is not as far from America as we think because the same thing is happening here except not to such a degree.

America has all of the evidence that we need to once again begin to discuss the need for energy independence.  To step down from our dependency on foreign oil and become more conservative on the fuels that we use now.  This also goes along with Associated Press White House Correspondent Ben Feller’s article Obama sharpens jobs element of energy pitch.  The president was quoted as saying "Making our buildings more energy efficient is one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest ways to save money, combat pollution and create jobs."  We are presented with an opportunity to revisit this worthwhile topic and actually do something about it.  The question is, do we have the backbone to make this happen or are we fully content to just talk about it?

I am sure that even though we will not be beholden to overseas countries as much as we are now, our focus of helping to aid them in their struggles will continue.  I do not believe that just because we do not have to depend on them for oil, this will not be the case for exports and even imports or global trade.  As a small business owner, I can see just how beneficial it would be for new start-up companies to get contracts to retro-fit commercial and government office buildings as well as for residential properties.  I can envision the many jobs that would create and the affect it would have on those homeowners, landlords and business owners’ bottom line when it comes to the decrease in energy costs.  I can envision those who finally secure employment going out and buying those things that they have gone without for so long and I can see the economy growing.  What I can’t see, sadly, is the only thing that can stop this dream form becoming a reality and that’s congress working together and making it happen.
