Reforming the Justice System must begin at the top

Talk to anyone who is familiar with our current justice system and many will point you toward reform but that is typically as far as the conversation goes because those who seem to care still are not sure how to go about making the change.  Some strongly suggest starting at the bottom where crimes are committed and those committing those crimes come in contact with the system but all that is mostly done there is a change in the law or procedures.  While this is and could be a good thing, it does not go far enough to make those abused by the system whole and no amount of money will ever return another’s lost dignity and self-respect.  Once you are arrested, you immediately have a record and nowhere in the remnants will there ever be the outcome of your case.  A bad arrest will show on your record just the same as a good arrest, so now the dreams, aspirations and goals of someone who were abused by the system are just as tainted, stained and tossed as someone who ...

Vengeance is Mine Sath the Lord

For so long people have been trying to explain in a clear way how allowing those who are better equipped to handle those issues for which you are not equipped to handle.  This is what your grandparents and parents meant when they said worry about the things you can control and those that you can’t turn them over to God.  Maybe justice will not come when you wish it to or when you call but make no mistake justice will come guaranteed. Classic example is found in the article titled “ 2 men plead guilty in 2011 racial beatings in Mississippi ” written by Jeff Amy for the Associated Press.  In this article it states “John Louis Blalack enters the federal courthouse in Jackson, Miss., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 for a change-of-plea hearing in relation to a series of 2011 racial beatings that resulted in the death of a Jackson man. Blalack was indicted in 2014 at the end of a long investigation sparked by the June 2011 death of James Craig Anderson who was run over by a picku...

Why Black on White Hate Crimes are no seen as such

Ran across this article titled “ Former Marine Brutally Beaten as Revenge for Ferguson; Told Waffle House ‘Not Safe for Whites’; Race-Hustlers Silent ” written by Jennifer Burke.  Was first lured to it because of the title former Marine and being one myself, had to try and find out more about what she was reporting that happened.  What I got out of the article was not that this is truly a hate crime but the constant ramblings of an ideological writer whose idea of reporting the news turned out to be nothing more than an opportunity to rant. The article reported that “Now, it looks like we potentially have our first case of a vengeance based hate crime by individuals who targeted a white guy in the name of justice for Michael Brown.  Former U.S. Marine Ralph Weems, a 32 year old white male, was left with life-threatening injuries after being followed by a mob of 20 black men then beaten. Prior to the attack, Weems, who is a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, en...

Sanford Florida and other areas could learn a lesson from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jackson, Mississippi

When asked why tempers are so high in Sanford Florida, many people just can’t seem to answer that question.   I, myself, have had a hard time attempting to explain why so many are marching for justice and often I use the analogy of people turning out to comb the countryside when The Anderson child was lost or the enormous outcry when Natalie Holloway came up missing.   While many have tuned in to the Trayvon Martin story, they have also been exposed to similar events which have happened and no one seemed to have really paid attention to them.   This has left some furious and others unaffected but what it should have done to all of us is show us that coming together as Americans is the only true way to end this senseless violence upon any community and upon our nation. Take for example an article written by Olivia Katrandjian of ABC News titled Two Men Arrested, Facebook Clues in Tulsa Shooting Spree .   This article along with the one from Holbrook Mohr of th...

What is not News?

I was again surprised to find that the top political news of the past few days were the new poll taken which showed Republicans voters still thinking that President Obama was a Muslim or didn’t know either way.   I wasn’t surprised by the numbers but more surprised by the cable news bunch thinking that this was really news.   I mean, what did they expect those numbers to show?   Breaking news would have been had those Republicans interviewed had changed their minds and voted to say that President Obama was a Christian.   This is not news. If you have an elect rid that will whole-heartedly accept the word of other people when they say that they are Christian but refuse to accept the word of Obama, you cannot expect for any other result.   When you have an elect ride that supports the abuse and denial women and their rights to deciding what happens to their own bodies, you cannot expect any other result.   When you have an elect rid that believes the ...

Jobs may be the only silver lining to US storms cloud

With the death toll currently at 313 lives lost and billions of dollars possible, there is very little to be thankful for.   Survivors will be grateful for their lives and the lives of friends and family but may never recover from the death of those closest to them as well as those from neighboring states and communities.   The one thing that we know for sure it that America will recover and as we do in all tragedies, come together as one to help our fellow Americans rebuild better than before.   This is of course who we really are as a nation despite all of the rhetoric and vitriol spewed from a small section of this nation.   We are one and all connected to a much better and higher purpose which binds one to another. As reported by Juan Castro Olivera of the Associated Press in his article titled Sprawling devastation as US storm toll tops 310 “v iolent twisters that famously rip through the US south's "Tornado Alley" are formed when strong jet winds bringing upp...
