This cannot be the New Face of the GOP, or is it

Not much offends me these days because so much is happening that one cannot afford to get caught up in all this unnecessary drama but when I read certain articles and view comments, I do acquire a few questions here and there. Much of the time I just either ask them quietly to myself, send a silent message to God to help me understand or just shake my heads and thank God that I do not and did not spread this type of hate to my children.  This time is different because now I feel that these questions needs answers from those who hide behind the anonymity of the internet or are comforted by money and allow these harmful acts to continue.  I say harmful but not to this nation as much as it is towards family, friends and loved ones who refuse to see the goodness in all for the sake of just belonging. I came to this decision after reading this post on Facebook by someone perpetuating the “GOPUSA”.  They posted this article “It's Time for Another Expensive Obama Family Wor...

The Dust-up over Duck Dynasty Star is a Blessing

It is both a lesson in political correctness and religious liberty but also a lesson that needs to be made clear during a time where many of us think we know but really don’t know the true word of God.  We repeat verses and quote them to make our point yet we fail to read and understand the rest of the chapter.  We think that just by quoting a few Bible verses, that makes our decisions right and proves our point but then we forget that this debate was never anything God commanded. Mr. Phil Robertson spoke about homosexuality and from what I have read many of those reporting on it has taken exactly what he said out of context to prove their points.  If you dare to read the Bible, you will find that in 1 st Corinthians Chapter 6 those exact words spoken by Phil are written by Paul.  We begin with verse 9 and end with 10, “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God?  Don’t fool yourself.  Those who indulge in sexual sin...

The Benefit of being treated with Suspicion or like a Criminal

In the wake of the Trayvon Martin Trial, many are now beginning to take a good hard look at themselves.   Whether it is those of the Black Community, the White Community, Hispanic Community, Asian Community, Gay and Lesbian Community, Religious Right and Left Community or any other community which seeks to survive and thrive in these United States of America.   We look at ourselves in order to discovery if we have done as much as we can to erase all bias and prejudice.   Some have little work to do but the majority of us have a whole lot of work ahead of us. When we speak of racism, bias or prejudice, we need to know that it is not particular to one race or another and surprisingly it is directed at not only those outside of our own race but within just as well.   If we are to eradicate hate, it has got to happen not only toward those who are of a different skin color but those whose pigmentation resembles our own. Take for example, two prominent gentlemen ...

What a “Sista Soulja” Moment would mean to Mitt Romney

Much has been made of the opportunities that Mitt Romney has had to create a Sista Soulja moment.   A moment where he takes a stand against those he believes are the ones who may cast a vote for him in the upcoming election.   Because there has been a few, one can only speculate as to the results of seeing Mr. Romney showing a little bit of backbone.   Below is what I think could be accomplished if he did take that elusive stand for doing the right thing. Because much of what Mr. Romney says is about non-divisive language, taking a stand could finally give him complete control over his party.   It could bring back the real Republicans who have gone into hiding or surrendered to the Tea Party.   He could finally bring Mormonism into the main stream, dispelling all of the lies and myths about his faith and give many a clear and correct look into a faith that frightens people mainly because they know nothing about it.   His stance could finally unite the have...

The Slow Erosion of Average Citizen’s Level of Protection

We all should be familiar with the phrase “judicial activism” by now since it has been used several times in recent memory to determine if any judge should be allowed a seat on any bench by those in political offices who are tasked with that decision.   I submit, that this has now become an epidemic not because it is necessary but because in order for those without to get justice they deserve, the “go-to” governmental offices established to protect the average individual’s rights no longer do so. Case in point is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).   As an individual, I had filed a complaint regarding a prominent radio-talk show host who used his status to give rise to a movement touting that there were an “institutional hatred of America being taught” in African-American households.   This was more than offensive to me as an African-American single father but more so as a former US Marine.   Thinking that government affords even the average citizen protect...

The Rush Limbaugh Show receives notification of pending lawsuit

There are a few philosophies that I live by and which has served me well.   One of the main one is the adage “give a person enough rope, they either become a cowboy or hang themselves.”   A cowboy in the sense of the Old West where he/she rides in to save the day and rides off into the sunset as a hero.   Hanging themselves in the typical sense of not knowing when to cease and desist from an action which reflects poorly on the person committing the action but also the collective country as a whole.   Being a single father, I try to instill these in my kids, hoping that these philosophies will also serve them just as well. When I read the article about Mr. Limbaugh implication that African-American households teach their children to hate America, this was the bridge too far for me.   According to reporting from Media Matters, Mr. Limbaugh was conducting Open Mic Friday and discussing the issue some felt the Grand Ole Party (GOP) had with the Hispanic communit...
