Even Ignorance cannot save you from this Unbalanced Justice System

You ask me why I say unbalanced justice system and I simply have to answer, pick up a local paper, magazine or turn on the news and look closely at those stories reported that are similar in circumstances.  If you are able to see the difference in reporting and the results then you may understand why I say unbalanced but if you cannot then maybe it’s just me who is unbalanced. Take this article titled “ Chicago man convicted of murder for giving teen niece gun used in fatal Facebook confrontation ” written by Jason Silverstien for the New York Daily News  In this article it talks about an uncle giving his niece a stolen gun and escorting her to the home of the girl she ended up shooting.  In a court of law, he was convicted of murder for his ignorant judgment of giving his niece a gun and going with her as if this was the adult way to handle any dispute.  How I see this as unbalanced is Tamir Rice is dead because someone gave that officer who was seen as unfit b...

Ferguson Grand Jury No Indictment of Darren Wilson sends a Powerful Message

What’s the message? It’s simple as long as you wear a badge and a gun, you have the right to initiate a confrontation and if you feel yourself losing that battle, you can now draw your weapon and kill the threat.  You may not be so lucky if you are a civilian but why not take a chance.  You could fall under the George Zimmerman defense or the gentleman who shot and killed that young boy for loud music.  This gives you a 50/50 chance.  But if you are unarmed, hard of hearing or playing with a toy gun, your chances of getting justice may not be so balanced. Consider this, the grand jury said that Mr. Wilson followed the law and the training he received in law enforcement training but I have to wonder if that is true or have the training changed since I attended.  You see, we were instructed never to engage without back up especially if you were outnumbered.  Mr. Wilson’s odds were 2 to 1.  We were instructed to monitor and track until the numbers we...

Is Law Enforcement really above the Law?

I ask this question because there are so many stories surfacing now about the over-reach of police and the blatant assumption that they can do whatever it is they want and not have to worry about responsibility.  It used to be something you would only see in some of these police shows on television or in a Cops episode but now I guess its life imitating art. Take as an example this article from the Associated Press reporting that “a northern New Mexico sheriff was arrested Friday on charges he cornered a driver at a dead end, threatened him with a silver revolver as the driver begged not to be shot and had him falsely charged with assault.  U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez announced Rio Arriba County Sheriff Thomas Rodella, who has had brushes with scandal throughout his career, and his son, Thomas Jr., were arrested by FBI agents at their Espanola homes in the March confrontation that left the driver injured. Authorities didn't detail the injuries.  The driver was arres...
