In the Battle between Education and Experience Everyone Loses

For years now there has been a war waging between choosing experience and higher education.  Savvy business owners have gotten many convinced that in order to take their company to the next level, they need “new blood” or someone who can think outside of the box.  They have convinced themselves and several others that this is the only way to gain an edge on the competition.  Many other businesses have gone a different route and kept their same old tired way of thinking and just bought out their competitors.  Those businesses then find that just throwing money at their lack of vision does not propel them any further than they are already so then they reluctantly embrace the higher education avenue overlooking experience.  You see the real problem is when you get so comfortable in your position you tend to fall into a certain business rut and with that goes all your creativity which is necessary to move any object forward.  Many believe to move forward all y...

A Message from One of a Warning to Us All

I was awaken this morning with a message for all of us, especially to those who are parents, grandparents, educators, instructors and those who have  a platform to address the masses. This message is one of frankness and one that many of us try so very hard to avoid saying because we worry about being “politically correct”.  It’s about the “true” evil that exists in this world and is all around us twenty-four hours a day. It is time for us to stop pretending that we will ever be able to rid this world of evil.  Evil of any and all kind.  Even God Almighty is not able to accomplish this and if it is difficult for him, we all should admit that it is more than far outside of our range to eliminate.  In this life, there are and always will be good and evil.  Even though we would love to believe that evil only exist in a very small portion of us, we know for a fact that evil can immerse even the strongest of us. It’s time to stop this charade of thinking...

No Justice for Juveniles

A now 15 year old boy is asked to decide if he wishes to plead guilty to criminal sexual assault and go home after being held in a juvenile detention facility for 5 months.   It is not explained to him that by pleading guilty for a crime you did not commit you will have to register as a sex-offender and answer “yes” to the question of being convicted of a felony on all employment and secondary education applications.   He is led to believe that this is his only way out and his court-appointed attorney has done very little to defend and protect his rights.   Their defense is that this may become a sealed file once he turns 18 years old but what they fail to see is the record may or may not be sealed but the experience and the nightmares could last forever.   I believe I see now what happens with young kids now when it comes to getting justice.   It appears the State makes juveniles a Ward of the State so they do not have to conform to the requirement that any ...

Nine Children lost their innocence before Joe Paterno lost his Job

For 15 years, Penn State University officials knew about the robbing of innocence children of their self-esteem and self-worth but did nothing except hide behind the wall of ignorance.   Each did just enough to help them sleep at night but none did all that they could to help them rest peacefully.   It has always been said that what you do in the dark will eventually find its way into the light.   Welcome to the light Coach Paterno, Coach Sandusky and Happy Valley. Many commentators, pundits and reporters are shocked by this news and some still are only speaking of Joe Paterno’s legacy and his “good” name.   For these people, let me put your mind at ease, Joe Paterno will still get into the Hall of Fame and his wins will still be printed in the records books.   His legacy will not suffer but I cannot say that about his soul.   Like that of the Catholic Church, when these allegations were first brought to light back in 1998, there was a moral obligation...

How the little things can mean so much

Recently I was confronted by a problem of my adopted daughter trying to coordinate college with finishing high school on a good note.   She seemed quite concerned that figuring out which one to pursue more than the other was going to make her lose her mind.   My advice was to concentrate on that which was directly in front of her and I would assist with those things that may occur later.   That little three minute conversation seemed to be the best medicine because she left my presence singing.   It was then that I began to think about all of the small things that seem to dwarf the larger ones and even minimizes them. I thought about my recent royalty check from AuthorHouse/Author Solutions.   While it amounted to only $41.00, it was $41 dollars that I did not have and it could easily allow me to purchase pull-ups for my three year old son.   Being unemployed for quite some time, that little check was enough to allow me to finally get a decent night sle...

Controversial New College Scholarship is no joke.

I must admit, when I first read this article by Daily Beast writer Lloyd Grove ’s article titled Save The White Males!, I was annoyed that such a waste of ink would be used.   I was greatly surprised and became supportive of this action after completing the article and putting myself in the shoes of the writer.   I was especially moved when I read that “When we decided to start this scholarship, the conversation was primarily along the lines of ‘There is something out there for almost any and every demographic, but we don’t see anything out there for this demographic.’ So we decided to go ahead and at least contribute toward a solution.”   This was something that I had never thought about until now but what really made me embrace this idea was reading ““We’re trying to help those people better their own lives. We’re not making any political claims. We’re just trying to help people” and “On CNN, Bohannan insisted: “We do not promote any kind of racial bigotry or white sup...
