The Arrogance of Americans

The arrogance of the Americas began a long time ago and they still continue today.  It’s the belief that those who are not Americans are less than intelligent or uncivilized.  If we look back in our history and study the attitudes and opinions of those then, we may come to realize that these same attitudes and opinions are prevalent today.  Looking at another and finding the differences instead of seeking the similarities often times leads us to excusing our distrust, dislike, disdain or simply ignorance of them.  We know neither their culture, nor their history or even care to learn of their experiences and this oversight, this refusal to see all as having the same rights to exist, live and pursue their dreams as we do ends up with us categorizing them instead of trying to understand them. The American Indians were thought to be savages because they choose to live in teepees instead of log cabins and worshipped the Great Spirit instead of a single God and did n...

The Arrogance of Intelligence

It is true that there are those of a much higher level of intelligence than others but there is also another truth that runs parallel to that theory which many of us refuse to acknowledge.  Those of higher intelligence may own that space in many things but there is and always will be a space where those of higher intelligence are simply as dumb as a box of rocks.   Now what this simply means is, there are certain things that even the most intelligent is uneducated about. When you go to a car lot and drive away with a vehicle that you really didn’t want but the salesperson convinced you to take, it is said that the salesperson outsmarted you.  What is unknown and often times over-looked is the mindset of the buyer of that vehicle.  Let’s say when you woke up that morning, you had a mission to get you a car today and even though you were well aware that you had no good down payment and your credit sucked, it was something you decided you were going to accompl...

Parents may not put the gun to their children’s head but we are the ones who pull the trigger

A parents number one concern is to try and prevents any harm, injury or death from coming to their children and to that end, we often rush to their defense considering that this actions proves our love but what if I tell you, it is not the action that you perform then but the actions you perform during the beginning stages of their lives that really shows your love.  Each and every time you step up and provide a buffer for your child, you are essentially setting them up for paying a heavier price of pain, injury or death because who will shield them when you are no longer around?  They have grown accustomed to you jumping in to save them and they have lost the fear of jumping in the deep in of the pool because they know you will jump in after them but what if there is a time they jump without thinking and you are not there to save them?  Do they now perish; do you now have to bury them?  The mistake your child makes growing up is the time to educate them and fin...

The Four Types of Intelligence

Just like there are three (3) stages of adulthood, there appears to be about four types of intelligence. Stage one, of adulthood, is being grown and that is when you are legally considered grown by law which is normally 18 years old but for some it may be 21. Stage two of adulthood is adult where it is said to be when you began to truly take responsibility for your actions, choices and decisions. Stage three is maturity which is when you are well aware of who you are to the point where others being who they are does not bother you. One stage is not the same as the others and if you are courageous enough to reach stage three, you shall find that peace and tranquility that you were looking for in the other two. To reach stage three, you have to be more than willing to listen to those you disagree with and consider the lessons those conversations may provide, applying them to who you are to become something better. The first type of intelligence is the natural intelligence.  This...

How smart are we really?

The world is constantly changing but there are somethings that never change.  One of those things is the competition between people of who is better, bigger, bolder and smarter than anyone else.  Today we attempt to measure the intelligence level of people by some tests which was created by a group of people claiming and receiving acknowledgment that they are supposed to be the elite of intelligence.  The sad part of all this truly is that no one is smarter than anyone else.  It is simply a matter of opportunity and aptitude than it is about anything else. Consider this, you make straight “A” s in school and immediately you are viewed as smarter than the other kids in your class but this same straight “A” student would have a very hard time putting those mastered skills in action the very first time he/she has an opportunity to do so.  You can learn everything about the engine of an automobile from a book and repeat those lessons as eloquent and articulate ...

New York Teacher Attack speaks Volumes but from only one side

Nothing bothers me more than the desire some feel that inflicting pain on another is ever justified for any reason.  I am especially bothered by those calling them role models or parents failing to set the proper example and then wonder why our jails and prisons are so filled. The article that conjures up this distaste in my mouth is one titled “ Attack by mom and juvenile niece knocks NY teacher out cold ” as reported by the Huffington Post.  The article details that “an attack on a New York teacher by Annika McKenzie – a double team attack and beat down by a mother and her juvenile, 14-year-old niece – left a teacher unconscious on a school hallway floor. The teacher, identified as Catherine Engelhardt, was beat to the point of unconsciousness on Wednesday after McKenzie stormed into the school and placed the math teacher in a headlock while her niece pummeled her in the face.  Writes the HuffPost: “Annika McKenzie, 34, is charged with second-degree assault and str...

Is Intelligence-Challenged Staffers why Politicians say the Strangest Things?

Like the rise of some many things that make you go WTF, we have been plagued with “foot in mouth” disease which seems to be affecting our lawmakers both State and Federal.  These are supposed to be the best and the brightest and representative of our nation as a whole.  Being human we are well aware that people will make mistakes but some of the things that escapes the mouths of politicians play more toward a thought that either they don’t know, don’t care or have staffers who don’t know or don’t care.  Have we gotten as bad as a nation that we are willing to accept any kind of representation or are we the ones who don’t know or don’t care? Take a look at the following stories about politicians who seem to love filet of sole.  The first is an article titled “ Nevada Lawmaker Says Cancer Is A Fungus, Recommends Simply Washing It Out” by Josh Israel for Think Progress who reports that “Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore (R) wants to reform the rules of end-of-lif...

The Mind, It’s Contents and It’s Power

The most important and largest part of the human body is the mind.  It is quite expansive and can continue to grow and expand beyond belief.  The mind has one and only one job which is to protect the body.  It is only contained and limited by the individual who controls it.  It has been known to overcome and defeat any barriers that man constructs unless the individuals controlling it allow it to be contained.  The mind can contemplate things that are out of this world and can compile, organize and maintain records of so many things that even those who are supposed to be the smartest in the world cannot fathom.  I believe that it is the mind that keeps all our involuntary actions like breathing, blinking, sensing and so many others functioning properly.  The mind has the ability to see danger and often times will send the body a warning.  It also will warn you ahead of time about maintaining your body like itching when it is time for the body to ...

New study of women who choose to breast-feed finding them less competent is flawed

Of all of the studies, I have ever heard conducted, this is one which should have never seen the light of day.   Not only was it done in a manner much unlike any that I have ever heard of but the premise was as flawed as the results.   According to an article written by Rachael Rettner a MyHealthNewsDaily Staff Writer titled Mothers Who Breast-Feed Are Viewed as Incompetent , “ Although breast-feeding provides proven health benefits for both mother and baby, women who choose to breast-feed are perceived as less competent than women who do not breast-feed, a new study suggests.   In one of their experiments, for instance, researchers found that the participants were less likely to hire a woman for a hypothetical job position once they learned she was breast-feeding.   Given the known  benefits of breast feeding , the study researchers were surprised by the results. "I would have had the opposite prediction, that breast-feeding would make somebody seem really com...
