  As far back as the memories will allow, life has not been the subject of legends living with Doris. From the denial of saying goodbye to your father at the age of three to leaving your alone to fend for yourself at the age of seven. From attempting to sell your off to marry for off to some very old guy to disappearing for weeks with no word and no apology when she finally returned. All of these your still find it hard to forgive and even though your wish you could forget, you know that forgetting is not possible so your simply exist and struggle every day not to retaliate especially since you took her into your home over seven years ago and her health is declining. For the remainder of her earthly life, you dedicate yourself to her service, making and transporting to hundreds of doctor’s appointments, juggling work, family, and her care. I have always been an advocate in believing that the strongest part of the human body is the mind.   I believe that it is the mind that is the main actor in this play called “Life” and if we are to truly be in command of our destinies, we must first master our own individual minds.   The mind has been credited with the ability to heal the body and we know that people have been able to convince themselves of things even in the face of over-whelming evidence to the contrary.   What one perceives to be the truth is often the reason why they may react in a particular way or believe in certain things and because of those conflicts arises and many times resolutions to these conflicts can never be reached.   This results in added stress which can cripple a person’s physical health.   There are ways to help reduce this stress and the primary one is to exert as much effort spent to help our children with their mental work as we do with their homework.   It is the ...

Americans are quick to try and point out just how wonderful we are as a country and how the example we set to the world should be followed without question but what we forget is that America never started out that way and it only became what it is today from those who were of influence and authority, finally choosing to learn from history so as not to repeat it.  The width of history is great and it expands over billions of years.  In order to achieve a more perfect union, those of us willing must be courageous enough to take apart our history and restore it one piece at a time.  History is far too vast to fix in one setting which is why it takes generations upon generations to pick up where the previous generation left off.  One clear example of this is discrimination. Common wisdom has us believing that emotions are controllable and that they can be dealt properly with just an expression of them.  I disagree with this common wisdom and the evidence of why is all around us. Common wisdom says that if someone makes you angry, all you need to do to deal with it properly is to find a non-combative way to let them know.  While this does ease the immediate sting of that action, it does not completely erase the emotion of anger.  There are still parts of that situation which plays over and over again within the confines of our mind and may again raise its head at a later time.  We often then attribute it to something else but for some reason do not completely accept that reasoning and often cannot figure out why.  Simply put, it is because assignment of another reason for that anger is wrong and deep within the very essences of which we are we know this that is why it does not sit right from the beginning.  So what do we d...

It’s becoming quite clear to me as to why many of us feel that God does not exist and it is not because of what we know is true but what we choose to accept as truth.  We know, within the very being of our soul that God does exist and he exists within each and every one of us.  We know that the true spirit of God is the image in which he created all of us and we know that what is on the outside of anyone is not anything close to the real spirit that dwells inside.  We know that we are much more alike than we care to admit and we know that righteousness is not a rite of passage or heritage but an innate sense that each of us have which compels many to do the right thing even when a force much larger is determine to convince us to do wrong. Pride used to be something that we all felt when we accomplished a goal that we set for ourselves and the majority of the time it was not a goal for all to see or hear about.  That is the major difference between pride and arrogance.  Pride makes you smile from the inside as you recount accomplishing that goal while arrogance makes you smile only when someone sees and comments when you have accomplished something.  We used to take pride in mostly everything we did, which elevated our attention to detail and level of work but today that sense of pride does not exist and we simply only do enough to get by. I don’t care how many times I brooch this subject, it still surprises me that so many of us in the black community have yet to wake up and truly smell the coffee.  There are many things that Black America should be proud of and find pride in like the millions of blacks that greatly contributed to the building of this nation but instead of helping to push the positive stories so that our children have more to look forward to than a rap career or on some athletic field, we continue to do nothing about making our rich history a much bigger part of the over-all American History. I found this article titled “ Israel Paid Senator Tom Cotton $1 Million to Block the Iran Nuclear Deal written by Keith Foote and I have a question.  If this is true and Senator Cotton failed in his attempt to block the deal does he have to give the money back?  Now contrary to what we want to believe, all that you find on the internet is not true so it is only a question.  I can tell you if I or anyone I know accepted money for a job but failed to deliver, we would surely have to refund the money and if we took too long to do so, we would find ourselves in a court.  Just wondering if we have somehow provided those in politics a “get out of responsibility free card” or something like that.  Now the article did say that “ The Kristol’s Emergency Committee for Israel gave Tom Cotton nearly $1 million in his race for the Senate just five months ago and maybe it was not for the reason this article says.  Maybe it was because Tom Cotton convinced them that...

Often time’s things happen in life that forces us to ask the question “What was that about” and when that happens there are but two clear choices.  The first is you deserve the fire for what you did but choose not to remember or it is what is referred to as “displaced anger”.  In order to know which one, take a step back and search your very soul to find out if it was truly something you did.  If it was then simply apologizing will correct the situation but if it wasn’t then take heart in knowing that the anger you just witness is an indication of something much deeper and if that person is truly a friend.  It is a sign that maybe you need to offer your help in solving. Many times anger directed toward us is really not about us and more about a deeper unsettling of the person expressing that anger.  Suppose you have finally gotten your fill of someone seemingly to be taking advantage of you.  You feel less like telling them where to go and drawing them...

The word enemy is thrown out frequently and often means the same to everyone who hears it but what would you say if I told you that we all had it wrong.  That those we consider our enemy is nothing but a person with a different view of things.  That the outcome which often accompanies that label “enemy” is not necessary in all cases and often times is unwarranted in many. The true definition of an enemy is something or someone you know whose only intention is to cause you pain, suffering, injury or death.  Something or someone you know who harbors nothing of value except for the value that they place themselves within, far and above the value that it or they place upon others similar but different than them or it.  Something or someone who is consistent in their loathing or anything or anyone that exist within their sphere or vicinity.  This enemy can be one or many and even sometimes may not even exist in reality at all. Again I embark on a subject that many will forever tag me for but if one refuse to address a subject in order to avoid critics, then you are not living you are only existing and if it one thing you will all learn of me, I refuse to just exist. Again we are in search for the simplest solution to the issue because for many parents, guardians or caretakers hatred from your child is not a problem.  So maybe hatred is too strong a word and maybe we need to use the word dismissing you but in order to use this word, or any other as far as that matter, we have to believe that the cause of this hatred is not something many parents, guardians or caretakers practice daily.  So I ask these questions.  How many of you make corrections to your child’s action in public or in front of others and how often do you do this?
