Man found dead in car could think of nothing but avoiding his next false arrest

I received this article from my wife titled “ Wrongly Convicted NC Man Found Dead in Car ” written by Breanna Edwards posted yesterday March 14, 2016 and in it she details “ Darryl Hunt, who spent 19 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, was found dead in a car in Winston-Salem, N.C., early Sunday, the Charlotte Observer reports. Officers got a call about a person believed to be dead in a car near the Wake Forest University campus, where they found Hunt unresponsive.  In 1984 at age 19, Hunt was charged with the rape and murder of a newspaper copy editor. Hunt was exonerated in February 2004 after DNA evidence led police to Willard Brown, who later confessed to the murder. Hunt was exonerated and pardoned by then-North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley and was also awarded a settlement of more than $1.6 million in 2007. Hunt then went on to found the Darryl Hunt Project for Freedom and Justice, which is an advocacy group for those wrongfully convicted.   As the Observe...

What is the Relationship between God’s Divine Presences and Prisons?

Leave it up to the skeptics and those who may have never spent one day behind America’s bars designed and built to correct our societal behaviors by locking us away and throwing away the key so that the decent folks in society are protected from us unruly, uncontrollable and criminals who seek to destroy our otherwise peaceful society with violence.  Leave it to them to speculate that the reason many who go to prison is often times quoted as finding God as the reason why they have been rehabilitated and has turned over that new leaf, is simply to receive more privileges in prison or get their sentence reduced.  Now we are not that cynical to think that there are some who think along that line but let’s assume that the few who actually believe that they found God in prison and that they do turn over that new leaf do.  What is the teachable moment here and how can we maybe help so many others reach this calm within out jailing everyone we see? The primary force, I beli...

Child Protective Agencies fail again and three more lives Ruined

To say that we all do not make mistakes is an understatement but to listen to those in the child protective trade, you would think that they were so professional in their duties that when they leave the bathrooms and you go after them all you would smell is roses.  Now we all know that following anyone who uses public facilities, that smell is definitely not that of a rose. I call your attention to an article titled “ Documents: Girl, 15, who shot brother, 16, suffered abuse ” written by Jason Dearen for the Associated Press.  In this article it is reported that “A 15-year-old girl who fatally shot her 16-year-old brother suffered years of abuse, including being locked in a room for weeks at a time with only a blanket and a bucket to use the bathroom, according to police reports and interviews.  The shooting at a small white house off a dirt road in rural north Florida happened Monday while the children's parents were away for work. The father, a truck driver, and hi...

What all People should know when dealing with Police?

I was reminded of something that I had noticed but not written about when I saw a video on Facebook from Randall Anderson and in it was a scene of two people just getting out of jail being re-arrested.  It sparked a thought of why and the truth behind one man telling police that they were trespassing to invoke immediate action from those law enforcement personnel present.  The caption on the video reads “Just got out of JAIL!  So me and the gentleman Mercutio Terrell Southall Sr. were just released from Homewood, Alabama Jail.... Let me know what we did wrong... We were literally 5 feet from MY car trying to leave. He was headed to his motorcycle to leave and was stopped by the officer. Why they beat this man like that?!?!” Now while I cannot tell you exactly where I think the cops were wrong besides the fact of never trying to act as mediator in disputes as they should be seen and going right for a  take-down  and arrest.  I know that when we pull up,...

Family Questions Jail Time of Miami man in Medicare Scam

Received an article titled “ Miami man gets 15 years in nation's biggest Medicare therapy scam ” in which it is reported that “a Miami physician's assistant who was described by his lawyer as a "bit player" in a nearly $200 million mental health scheme to swindle Medicare was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Tuesday.  But it could have been worse for Roger Bergman, 65, of Miami, who was facing up to 25 years under federal sentencing guidelines for his supporting role in the biggest mental-health clinic scam ever orchestrated against the taxpayer-funded Medicare program.  Bergman, convicted in July of a fraud conspiracy, conducted bogus evaluations of hundreds of patients and falsified their records to dupe Medicare into believing they needed the costly therapy services, according to trial evidence.  Bergman is among the last of about 40 defendants who have been convicted in the high-profile criminal case of American Therapeutic Corp. The Miami-based company, with a...

Judicial Incompetence is Key to the lack of justice in American Justice System

When it comes to the American Justice System, as compared to other justice systems the world over, even those who care less for this system must admit that no other can ever beat it.   We know this because so many who are truly guilty and place their comfort over the comfort of their fellow man will eventually pay the price and when so many who see themselves as above the law find themselves caught by the long arm of it.   But with all good things, there will be some bad and the true difference between those who demand better and those who are content as long as they are not directly affected, are the drive to make it better. So what do I mean when I say that judicial incompetence is the key?   Simply put, it’s those in our legal system who are poised to defend the least among us.   That public defender who is extremely new, extremely unsympathetic to those they are called to defend or just extremely bad at their job period.   Either way, this is the first ...

Answer to Winnebago County Jail population is simple math and a matter of law

Rockford, IL- I was struck by an article written by Mark Stevens of WTVO TV titled   Jail Population Has Winnebago County Leaders Looking at Courts which stated that “the Winnebago County Jail is slowly filling up... jeopardizing safety and costing taxpayers more money.   The problem... fewer cases are getting through the court system.   Law changes have made more crimes serious... but budget cuts have hurt their efficiency.   Their answer… bringing back Saturday court or maybe work a little extra overtime. If the goal is to reduce the crowding and save money then the answers can not be those above because it is doing the same things over and over again, the exact same way but expecting a different result.   That is nothing more than a sign of insanity, especially since they just blow hundreds of dollars building a brand new facility.   What they need to do is make many of the crimes that people are sitting in jail awaiting their time in court for, a c...
