House Speaker John Boehner’s Two Biggest Mistakes

Many are applauding House Speaker John Boehner’s latest tirade where he finally puts the Heritage Action and other groups into the proper prospective but some are saying “too little too late”.  Mr. Boehner could have saved his party and raised the level of play in Washington to a much higher level by doing what he began to do with the “Grand Bargain”.   Had he completed this action, America would have to reconsider its thought of Republican governess and would have a completely different take on them as they have today.   But, alas, Mr. Boehner found himself hamstrung by his two most devastating mistakes far too early after taking control of the gavel.  His two major mistakes were inheriting Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy. With Eric Cantor, Mr. Boehner inherited a partner who was immediately embraced by sabotaging of the speaker in order to claim that gavel for himself.  History tells us that as soon as he was named as the number two man, Mr. Ca...

Why the GOP is failing to remain Relevant

The number one reason why the GOP is failing to remain relevant is “lack of leadership”.   John Boehner, Eric Cantor and even Mitch McConnell seem to lack the ability to handle two things at once.   The GOP is vital to the health of this nation and we are in dire need of having at least two parties who may disagree how we get to a place but both agree on the need to be there.   This nation needs the yen to the yang, the left to the right.   We need two parties that are willing to sit down and discuss all points of the argument, coming up with decisions that serve this nation as a whole.   We do not have this today and if those in the leadership positions do not get a pair and begin leading their party, this nation will suffer much more than it already has.   The party leadership could finally decide that this nation is more important than their jobs and put all those angry voices back in the can and on the shelf.   The evidence of how strong the...

The Obama Strategy for nixing the Pipeline

Many experts are wondering what the reason was for the Obama Administration’s denial for not approving the Keystone Pipeline permit and it simply can be put into two words “exposing hypocrisy”. According to Deborah Solomon and Laura Meckler of the Wall Street Journal in their article titled Obama Says No, for Now, to Canada Pipeline “the Obama administration rejected the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, saying a congressionally imposed deadline didn't allow enough time to review the project's environmental impact. President Barack Obama said the decision, which put the pipeline on hold following a review that began in 2008, "is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline" and criticized next month's deadline as "arbitrary." The administration suggested that the pipeline's builder, TransCanada Corp., could reapply.”   This action worked perfectly and again made many in opposition of anything this ad...

Heated debt talks signals the end of Tea Party rule

The has been much conversation about what happened in the debt talks between President Barack Obama and the Republican’s number two man, Eric Cantor.   Everybody has their own interpretations about what that exchange meant and like everyone else, I have mine.   Mine say that the Republican Party may have received a blessing in disguise and President’s Obama frustration may just be their salvation.   Mine says that this events signals the end of Tea Party rule and the re-emergence of the real Party of Lincoln Here is my evidence and much of it comes from an article by Olivier Knox for AFP titled “ Global warnings raise stakes in US debt standoff” .   It all started when “The US hit the ceiling on May 16 and has used spending and accounting adjustments, as well as higher-than-expected tax receipts, to continue operating without impact on government obligations.”   That was when “The president began pressing for a comprehensive deal to last through his 2012 reelec...

The ineptitude of the Republican Party is brought to you by the Republican Party

When I was growing up in a small town in Tennessee, we used to be warned all the time about putting the cart before the horse.   Now as a child, I would envision a cart in front of the horse and wondered why anyone would do that especially if they were looking to have the horse pull the wagon.   The GOP appears to be guilty of this very thing. Associated Press’ David Espo penned an article titled Medicare overhaul proposal causing GOP stress sighting “ With Congress just back from a week's vacation, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., indicated Monday that Republicans want to change the subject. Without mentioning Medicare, he said the House majority has been focusing recently on "how to address the deficit (by) cutting back on the expenditures."   Now, he said, the GOP will present a "growth agenda."   They campaigned and won in 2010 on job creation and deficit reduction.   When the new session was gaveled in their focus became strictly about aborti...

Why Obama must put everything on the table during budget talks

Plainly speaking by putting everything on the table, you take away any advantage that the party sitting across from you have.   You say to them, here’s the list of things and force them to now choose where and how much they will cut.   With the release of the Ryan Budget and having the Speaker of the House say that Paul Ryan is the budget czar, having total authority to choose for them their strategy, he now know what and how much. Next t step is to do the same, if not more, than they have but in a way where everyone puts skin into the game.   This can never happen if everything is not on the table To answer his critics quoted in this Jim Kuhnhenn’s article for the Associated Press titled Obama's debt cutting plan: Everything on the table , first being   “t he president's speech also comes amid liberal apprehension over recent Obama spending concessions and a desire among some Democrats to make proposed GOP cuts in Medicare a 2012 election issue. But now that Obama ...

After frank discussion between Obama, Reid and Boehner a truth was revealed

I had not thought much about this until I watched breaking news about the meeting between President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Majority Leader John Boehner.   I heard the president mention the name of a fellow American who had been interviewed by the mainstream media which he said that if he could address all of the parties involved it would be to tell them to grow up and get to an agreement because a shutdown would hinder his ability to provide for his family.   This gentleman was waiting on his tax return to help him shave off disparity and a shutdown may delay his receipt of that return longer.   It occurred to me that with so much of the talk centering on a government shutdown, we neglected to see the stories of those who would really be affected. It also made me aware that John Boehner is third in line for the presidency if something were to happen to those ahead of him. I began to question just how effective he would be in that position cons...
