When it comes to writing, for me, there has to be a passionate point that I feel needs to be made and probably hasn’t thus far.  I say probably because, unlike God, I am not omnipresent which means others in other locations may have addressed these subjects and I not know anything about it until someone who happens to spy both would then educate me.  That being said let’s get back to the purpose of this article. Many often ask why those who are supposed to be adults seldom act like it and choose to act more like children when it comes to certain things.  For me the answer is convenience and nothing more.  Convenience because when we are comfortable within our skins, anything that seems contrary or could threaten our comfort is looked upon as foreign and an enemy to our happiness. Ask the questions of those who commit crimes and often you may get the answer that it’s the only way that they know how to survive.  There is no truth in that statement but many who ask really could care less about the answer or a solution so it’s widely accepted and we all move on.  But if you want to really know the real reason, the ultimate excuse which can be proven, it is the years and years of unequal justice found permeating from within our justice system.  Many have talked about it and some have even made some attempts to deal with it but soon they either run out of energy or just plainly give up.  All the while those who they say could do better can’t because the process  doesn't  allow them to. I ask this question because there are so many stories surfacing now about the over-reach of police and the blatant assumption that they can do whatever it is they want and not have to worry about responsibility.  It used to be something you would only see in some of these police shows on television or in a Cops episode but now I guess its life imitating art. Take as an example this article from the Associated Press reporting that “a northern New Mexico sheriff was arrested Friday on charges he cornered a driver at a dead end, threatened him with a silver revolver as the driver begged not to be shot and had him falsely charged with assault.  U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez announced Rio Arriba County Sheriff Thomas Rodella, who has had brushes with scandal throughout his career, and his son, Thomas Jr., were arrested by FBI agents at their Espanola homes in the March confrontation that left the driver injured. We all should be very much aware now that post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD does not only affect combat veterans but all of us if we have experienced a terrifying incident.  Yet this knowledge and recognition has not translated to the awareness of people in charge providing those workers/employees with the necessary personnel or information to properly deal with this fact. Much like military members who have served in peace time had to constantly deal with the possibility of being called to duty at any time while they wore that uniform, so is the case for every police officer and correction official who steps into that arena, trying to make a living and provide for his or her family.  And as much as those veterans who are often overlooked as suffering from such, so are many departments overlooking those officers previously mentioned. The word enemy is thrown out frequently and often means the same to everyone who hears it but what would you say if I told you that we all had it wrong.  That those we consider our enemy is nothing but a person with a different view of things.  That the outcome which often accompanies that label “enemy” is not necessary in all cases and often times is unwarranted in many. The true definition of an enemy is something or someone you know whose only intention is to cause you pain, suffering, injury or death.  Something or someone you know who harbors nothing of value except for the value that they place themselves within, far and above the value that it or they place upon others similar but different than them or it.  Something or someone who is consistent in their loathing or anything or anyone that exist within their sphere or vicinity.  This enemy can be one or many and even sometimes may not even exist in reality at all. Today, President Barack Obama launched his “My Brother’s Keeper Initiative” which is designed to bring together industry, faith-based organizations, religious groups and business owners to help create, fund and monitor programs which has been proven to help erase the enormous gap between young minority males and their white counterparts.  Some of those programs already have a proven track record and others are still in the experimental phase.  These programs would seek to open doors which has been closed and locked to minority males for years.  This was supposed to be a good thing but as luck would have it; to some it wasn’t seen as an opportunity to fix these long broken promises and times.  It was seen by some as another excuse to keep this nation as broken as it always been. For some this may be hard to believe but God always makes a way.  I tell you this because even I have doubts sometimes and wonder if God does hear my prayers.  I have been unemployed since 2009 and as much experience and knowledge that I have obtained in my years of dwelling here on this earth has not been enough and in some cases too much to land a really good job.  So I sat, losing the only source of strength I have held onto for so long, my manhood.  Feeling it slip away little by little until I discovered why it was leaving.
