Your only true limitations are those you place upon yourself

Growing up in the south, I heard many stories and was lied to many times.  The stories I heard of was about the accepted fact that black men were either destined for jail, the graveyard or limited to working as a farm hand or in the local cotton gin.  I heard these stories from both blacks and whites and after a while began to believe them and settle in for what I was destined to do.  What changed was among those stories was the fact that as a black man, it would be a miracle to even graduate high school.  Like all children growing up, I dreamed of that big house with that white picket fence surrounding it and being able to walk out on my porch and be addressed as mister instead of boy.  To be able to purchase what I wanted when I wanted and do for my mother more than she had ever done for me.  I wanted her to be proud of the boy that she had raised and the man I had become.  It was my desire to not have her want for anything and not have to work so h...

Why America’s Creativity and Innovations are vastly lacking

If anyone is wondering why America seems to be falling behind the rest of the nation’s when it comes to new ideas and fresh technology, wonder no more.  It is as simple and plain as the nose on your face but few have the spine to say it to your face except for me.  I am about to tell you all about yourself America and I warn you now, you might not like what I have to say.  You can ignore this if you wish but I know that you know what I am about to tell you are the truth and only the truth will set us free. The reason America seems to be falling behind is because we have stifled the one and only propeller of forward movement we have as a nation.  We have stifled creativity and innovation.  We do this by making the rules to invent and innovate apply to only those who either have the resources themselves or a rich uncle hidden somewhere in the wood pile.  You have to either know someone with deep pockets, have been born in a family that has deep pockets, ...

How and Why American Business went from Manufacturing to Service

Many, in business will tell you that most things goes in cycles and because of that, this “funk” that American Business is in is only temporary.   Now make no mistake, I am no expert but I am smart enough to see that this is a bold-faced lie.   I hope to educate some as I make my case below. Business first began as a healthy competition between two or more people who had the exact same skill set.   They would compete by no other means than better service.   Better service because they makers of things took enormous pride in the quality of their work.   It made them so proud of their work that they would gladly stand behind it and it made customer more comfortable because they knew if anything went wrong, they could take the product back and be treated with respect as their issues was immediately resolved.   This happened because the driving force behind business was the desires to succeed provide the public with a service sorely missing by neighborho...

America’s time to take the lead in the Terrorist Fights is now

I have been searching for quite some time to find investors willing to help me bring my patent-pending Bomb Detection and Containment System to market and with this new threat, now is the time for America to take the lead.   My new innovation will not only detect and contain bombs worn by suicide bombers but also all types of vehicles as well.   America is looking for the next stage of manufacturing which will not only creation millions of jobs but make those three words that President Obama spoke of last night in his speech of “Made in America”   more true now than they ever have been.   These bomb detection devices could be used in airports, train terminals, bus depots or any place where the public gathers as well as set up to screen any and all vehicles entering and exiting any facility, building or grounds all over this world.   We could be the first to introduce this type of security measure which will not infringe on anyone’s personal space or subject...

Lack of vision may be why America is behind in the Innovation War

America was once known as the “Land of Opportunity”, where someone with little to no standing could become someone of great influence.   Where education was not strictly judged by the schools you attended but also by the experience you displayed.   That seems so long ago now because now where you come from and the reputation of a particular educational institution is required.   In other words it’s “who you know” that matters. The “who you know” saga is played out in today’s communities by credit reporting agencies and their control over credit scores.   They can decide to lower them and make 600 the score needed to obtain financial help from traditional sources or they can raise them where only those with 720 credit score can avail themselves of those services.   This is also now being used to determine if you are worthy of being hired regardless of the years of experience that you have.   Right now many employers are using your credit report to determine...

Black History Facts you should know

When I was attending school in my history class there was very little in the way of contributions made by African-Americans.   As a child, not seeing this made many of us feel less than worthy of the title Americans.   During the month of February, we learned a little more but it was mostly about the same people and that made me wonder why no other African-Americans donated anything to this nation.   I am glad to say that I was wrong and it is imperative that any course called American History include all American’s contribution. Case in point, Garrett A Morgan (1877 – 1963) in 1907 he had a patent for an improved sewing machine.   He patented a ‘breathing device’ (1914), a hood that allowed the wearer to breathe safely in the presence of smoke, gases, and other pollutants.   He patented his automatic traffic signal (1923) and sold it to the General Electric Co. or how about Daniel Hale Williams ( 1858 – 1931 ) an American physician and founder of Provident Ho...
