The Problem with Trying to Erase History

Throughout the history of this nation, or any nation, there will be things that leaves us with a sense of pride and things that we would rather choose to hide but history itself teaches us that if becoming a more perfect union is what we truly desire, trying to hide or erase our bad actions of history is not and never will be the proper way to go. Ripping down Confederate statutes, changing the names of military bases which carried some of these general’s name, burning books or banning them, and of course rewriting history to suit a particular cause or belief are these ways of condemning the nation and all nations to eventually and constantly repeat these bad acts. The push to erase our history does not come from those seeking to make our world a more inviting and welcoming place, it’s sought by the kings, queens, and dictators who have been allowed to act as their ideas, beliefs, and desires are the only ones that matter. Laws created during a time where few ruled over the man...

Something to Think About Regarding These State’s Abortion Bans

According to an article titled “The Conversation- A concise history of the US abortion debate, by Treva B. Lindsey, Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, The Ohio State University, Published: June 10, 2019, https://theconversation.com/a-concise-history-of-the-us-abortion-debate-118157 . History has again been totally ignored and the lesson lost.   This being the case, it bears out the great need for educated people to finally diagnose history as it happens and make the necessary changes to ensure that this particular piece of history is not constantly repeated. Consider this, “While many may think that the political arguments over abortion now are fresh and new, scholars of women’s, medical and legal history note that this debate has a long history in the U.S.   It began more than a century before Roe v. Wade. As of 2019 “around 1962 the Food and Drug Administration approved the first commercially produced birth control pill, Enovid-10. Although various ...

If the way Barack Obama was treated is not Racism, then please what was it

Since Donald J. Trump made the decision to run in the Republican primary, I have been struggling to understand why it is still difficult for me to totally accept this man as the 45 th president of the United States.  My better angels are telling me that one can only control that which one can and therefore must accept those things that they cannot but for the life of me, I cannot understand why being reasonable in this situation is harder for me than any other I have ever encountered.  That was until just a few minutes ago. It was after hearing those voices in Kentucky who benefited  from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare hearing Trump say that his main focus will be to repeal and replace it, would still vote for him.  It all became clear to me when I heard this one voice say that the only reason she voted for him is because she detested and did not like Obama.  So because you don’t like a person, you stand against all that they say or do even if ...

Heard the saying Cleanliness is next to Godliness well here’s another one

I don’t often place much stock in old wise sayings or  other kinds of superstitions but every once in a while a thought occurs to me which not only revives those old sayings but possibly creates another in my mind which I believe is placed there to share.  For some reason or another, I awoke this morning with a thought of cleanliness being next to Godliness just like arrogance is next to ignorance, I’ll explain. If you were privy to this saying as I was growing up, we used to hear it all the time especially when parents wanted us to learn to properly bathe ourselves and not put on the very same clothes we had been wearing the past week.  Since it was told to us that being clean brings you closer to God, we then applied that to our understanding of how to tell if the people we meet on the street was Godly people or sinners.  Society began to take this saying to new heights and even used it as a form of discrimination which also allowed us to distance ourselves fr...

Supreme Court dealt major blow to Civil Rights, will it repeat it with Women’s Rights

It was reported that “last week the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Peggy Young v. UPS case to determine whether employers have to make accommodations for a worker who needs them because of pregnancy.”  It further reports that “Peggy, a UPS delivery driver, became pregnant and her doctor recommended she take a hiatus from lifting heavy boxes until after giving birth. However, Peggy was denied temporary light duty and forced to take unpaid leave by the company.   Under this bill, pregnant women will be able to request reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions without the fear of being fired—a privilege that isn't included under current law.” We all should know by now how this court has made wide-ranging and volatile rulings especially when it comes to civil rights but a few of us are still holding out hope that those whose task is to interpret the law will not be guilty of over-reach again.  Not for something tha...
