Before Reparations-Black America has a greater need

To say that I was surprised to be directed toward an article titled “Evanston, Illinois to begin distribution of up to $25K in reparations to Black residents” written by DeMicia Inman for Yahoo News dated March 4, 2021 would be an understatement.   I guess my surprise came when I realized that this action, while maybe of good intentions, would clearly do more harm than good in the long run.   The article reported that “the midwestern city is the first in the country to establish reparations with a commitment of $10M over the next decade.  In Evanston, Illinois, eligible Black residents will receive reparations up to $25K as part of a commitment from the city. ABC News reported that the city, north of Chicago, will begin issuing payments this year. 5th Ward Alderman Robin Rue Simmons pushed for the legislation. She was inspired to work on closing the racial wealth gap through her own experience growing up Black in Evanston and still living there t...

Unreconcilable Guilt-The Unnatural Act of the taking of another Human Life

Reading this article titled “ Two men arrested in plot to kidnap Michigan governor were Marine veterans ” by Philip Athey for Your Marine Corps , October 10, 2020, got me to wondering just where this idea of committing such an act originated from?   The article read “ Two of the 13 men arrested in an  alleged domestic terrorism plot  to kidnap Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer  were Marine veterans , according to Marine officials.   Joseph Morrison was a Marine reservist who joined the Corps in March 2015 and was  discharged from the reserves  as a lance corporal on Thursday, Capt. Joseph Butterfield, a headquarters Marine Corps spokesman, told Marine Corps Times Saturday. He was assigned to Engineer Support Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Battle Creek, Michigan, and his awards included the National Defense Service Medal and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, Butterfield said.   Dani...

The Romney Gingrich Love Affair

Media is missing a large piece of the puzzle as to why there now seems to be a love affair between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.   Many want to attribute it to a prime0time speaking spot but it is much simpler than that. The great meeting between Romney, Trump and Gingrich is nothing more than to get them on the same page.   It’s an opportunity for Gingrich to get help from Trump in nailing down the second spot on the ticket.   Yes, that’s right; Newt Gingrich is vying for Vice President.   Image the roar it would create.   Newt is quite strong in the South and Romney needs that.   Gingrich can sling the mud better than most and he can even be convincing when he does it.   Newt matches up with Joe Biden better than many because the knock on Biden is that he is a gaff machine but so is Newt.   Joe Biden can speak to so many subjects without missing a beat and so can Newt Gingrich.   The Vice Presidential Debate would draw millions for no...

GOP Golden Boy Marco Rubio misses a Golden Opportunity

Arlette Saenz of ABC News reported in his article titled Rubio Comes Out Swinging at Obama at S.C. GOP Dinner reported that “Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., doled out attacks on President Obama tonight in a high-profile speech before South Carolina Republicans, laying out aggressive criticisms of the president as he called him the most "divisive figure" in American politics.   "The president and his party's view of America's government and our lives is a failed one. It hasn't worked. His ideas that sounded so good in the classrooms of Harvard and Yale haven't really worked out well in the real world."    But this is not the missed opportunity. It is expected that Rubio speaking to his group and people would garner “applause at the South Carolina GOP's Silver Elephant Dinner.”   It would be news if he had not have spoken about President Obama in terms like   "they get frustrated. They can't win on their record, and so they've chosen to...

Daley exit less about strategy more about frustration

Of all of the articles and news stories I have heard about Bill Daley’s departure as Chief of Staff, none puts it in a more clearer light than the article written by Bloomberg’s Mike Dorning titled Daley Departs as Obama Shifts Strategy to Confronting Congress in it he outlines the rise and fall of this appointment and makes quite a compelling case of strategy change.   Personally, I believe that it may have played a role but the largest role was played by frustration. As the article reports “Obama turned to Daley, a former JPMorgan Chase & Co. executive and U.S. commerce secretary, in January 2011 as the president sought to improve relations with U.S. businesses and congressional Republicans following the 2010 midterm elections in which Democrats lost their House majority and saw their margin in the Senate shrink.”   I believe that Daley had no idea just how strong the hatred for this president was and was taken aback when he experienced it first-hand.   It was prob...
