The History of Politics-An Un-American Sport
A brother Marine asked me “Why
does the African-American community vote Democrat? He asked me if I could try to explain it to
him and below is my explanation.
Since no race of people are
all the same, I can only tell you what I think that reason maybe but if you
want a more definitive answer you are going to have to ask individual blacks. Here is what I believe could possibly be the reason so many others
vote Democratic.
The
first thing that needs to be made clear is the majority of African Americans
don’t follow a party but an idea. If a
politician promises to do right by the African-American community, he/she has a
really good chance of getting their votes but when they get in power, forget their
promises and/or turn their backs on blacks, know that next go around, many
blacks would not spit in their butts if their guts were on fire and if the
turning of the back was brought on by a group of people, that group would pay
as well. Here is what I mean.
In
1834 the Whig Party was formed to oppose Andrew Jackson and his weakness to stop
slavery from spreading west. With the
passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Bill of 1854, that battle was lost, and the Whig
party fell apart. Around February 1854, a group of them begin meeting
and it is reported that in Wisconsin somewhere around March 20, 1854, they
founded the Republican Party. That party
was formed specifically to fight for the rights of black Americans and fight it
did until around the mid-1870s when the party went from defense of black
America to the party of big business. Profits over people and non-intrusive federal government into states’
rights became their main interests and the cause of equal rights for black
citizens vanished from national American politics. In 1964 Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson signed the
Civil Rights Act but republicans still had a chance to win back the black vote
until their nominee for President Barry Goldwater said that the Civil Rights
Act expanded government power too much, in other words he was talking about
repealing it.
Since
that time many have promised, been elected then suddenly forgot. So far, more democrats have followed through
on their campaign promises to black America than republicans. This could change if you could find a few who
will promise and deliver instead of promise and ignore. The numbers never concerned black America, it’s
the over-all feeling that makes us feel like we are apart of this nation. If we feel apart, we keep them in office but
try to play us for a fool and we will do all that is within our power to
dismiss you.
This
is the best I got, hope it helps.
