Boehner and others lack of creditability when it comes to Foreign Affairs
As this election season begins to heat up, I never really placed much thought in the ideas of those who seemed so far removed from the economic issues of this nation when it comes to anything especially foreign affairs but with the recent deluge of comments coming from these individuals, it has raised a question or two.
It should be expected that the crop of those seeking the Republican Presidential Nomination would have a few thoughts about foreign affairs what caught me completely off guard was the article by Matt Spetalnick of Reuters titled Top Republican assails Obama "reset" with Russia. In it he reports that
“House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, in a rare speech on foreign policy, warned that Russia's response to Obama's much-vaunted outreach was "nothing short of an attempt to restore Soviet-style power and influence." Pushing for a tougher line, Boehner pressed Obama not to agree to Russia's long-sought accession to the World Trade Organization until it settles a territorial dispute with neighboring Georgia, a U.S. ally, rooted in their 2008 war. In an address to the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington, he also urged the administration to do more to "compel" Russia to curb its ties with Iran, particularly on nuclear and missile technology, and called for a stronger effort to get Moscow to address human rights concerns. "The United States should insist Russia 'reset' its own policies. If those appeals require teeth, the House stands ready to approve them," Boehner said.”
This from a man who not only voted for the war in Iraq but never even muttered one sound when our former president and his crew were making up reasons for the invasion, failed to find bin Laden and when George Bush said that he looked into the soul of Putin and he was a good man. It seems that as soon as this arose with Bush, these concerns should have been addressed then. Where were Boehner and the rest of them then? He mentioned concern about “human rights” when he has done nothing to promote human rights at home. Americans need help right here and they have the right to provide a decent living for their families but they seem more concerned about the people of Russia or Georgia.
The most comical of Boehner’s comments came toward the end of the article when he was reported to have said "We cannot sacrifice values or get away with walling off our interests from our moral imperatives." My question to Mr. Boehner is what ever happened to your moral imperatives for your fellow Americans. You promised jobs and not one bill moved through your majority had anything to do with them. You have demonstrated that you are not able to get much of what you wanted passed through the House so why should anyone expect this same House to stand with the President if he follows your suggestion. Mr. Boehner and the rest are not serious about standing with this president on anything and this new wrinkle is but another attempt to highjack this administration into being left at the altar again.
