Another Child Dies while Mother, Father and Activists Stands by

Far be it for me to cast dispersion on anyone, Lord knows I have plenty of skeletons in my closet but when I hear any story about a child not being allowed to mature and grow because of some idiotic lunatic and their supporters, I cannot sit quietly.  This is the case with what has been reported by one of our local television stations WREX (Rockford, IL).

The article is quoted as saying “A 40-year-old Rockford man has been found guilty in the beating death of his girlfriend's three-year-old daughter.  Duran Johnson was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder Wednesday. He was also found guilty of concealing a homicide and intimidation. However, he was found not guilty of aggravated battery toward victim Kaitlyn Head's two surviving sisters. He faces a maximum of 100 years in prison.  Head's mother, Melanie Grant, pleaded guilty earlier this year to beating her daughter but claimed Johnson was the one who ultimately killed her.  A forensic pathologist showed Head suffered bruises and cuts on 50 percent of her body, her ears were tearing away from her scalp from being pulled, and her face showed marks the pathologist linked with being beaten in the head with a belt.  "Guilty," says Judge Gary Pumilia, "Horrifying, how could this be done to children of these ages?  “The judge did not believe the defense saying Johnson and Grant worked together to punish Grant's three children including Kaityln and when one person got tired of beating Kaitlyn during her punishments the other would take over.”

The supporters were of course the mother, who joined in refusing to do her job to defend her child, the father of the children who were so pre-occupied with his own sad existence that he was not paying attention to any of the lives he helped to create and then comes the activist who claim that they fight for the life of all children.  Much like the next article about antiabortionists who claim to have been called by God to travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to close abortion clinics because to them abortion is murder. 

The article is written by Katie McDonough for Salon.com and titled “The right’s scary new test lab: Antiabortion activists target a major city”.  It reports as follows; “Bud and Tara Shaver moved their small family to New Mexico to try to shutter the Southwestern Women’s Options clinic.”  Tara Shaver was reported as saying ““Three years ago God called us to come [to Albuquerque] to work and focus on the late-term abortion clinic here,” she explained over the phone.”

First, I take offense at the use of God as a reason to try and control the choice of other people because you have decided that it is what you believe.  Next where is this kind of activism to defend the life of all children whether in womb or out?  I don’t see picket signs when there are clear signs that this child and her sisters were being abused.  Maybe I am wrong but this whole system stinks to high heaven and this should be one of the true calling of anyone attempting to claim that they know God.  Maybe this pretend mother should have been granted an abortion then her daughters would not have had to live through this, Kaityln would still be alive, maybe under a different name and situation and her sisters will not have to live with this trauma for the rest of their lives.  All this gives little credence to that motto “In the Interest of the Children”.
