Tuesday’s deadly blast in Lebanon is another strike for Republican Foreign Policy
I recall
your attention to the Syrian Crisis where when the Obama Administration moved
carriers to a more strategic position but held off on launching rockets and
planes because for the first time, Russia backed off and the leader of Syria
finally admitted to having nuclear weapons.
This was seen by Republicans as a “lack of leadership” and their only
proposal was to arm the rebels. Media
fell right into line with the Republican’s view and helped to promote this
vision. What they refused to look toward
was the complete picture and thank God we have an administration in the White
House that was not so quick to arm the rebels but to take it slow.
Proof of why
this really was a smart strategy can be found in an article titled “Deadly blasts near Iran’s embassy in
Lebanon linked to Syrian war, sectarian divisions” written by Loveday
Morris and Ahmed Ramadan, with an assist from William Booth in Jerusalem and
Suzan Haidamous in Beirut. This article states that At least 23 people
are dead after twin blasts targeted the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital
Beirut on Tuesday. The long-running Syrian
civil war has inflamed sectarian tensions across the region, as a largely Sunni
insurgency backed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar battles to oust President Bashar
al-Assad, who has received support from Shiite fighters from Iran and Iran’s
ally the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.”
Image America’s name being included Saudi Arabia and Qatar, what would
the Republicans and the media be saying now?
The Abdullah
Azzam Brigade, the al-Qaeda-linked Sunni militant group that claimed
responsibility for Tuesday’s attack, made clear the Syrian war was the motive,
demanding that Hezbollah pull out its fighters.” “Majid bin Muhammad al-Majid, the Azzam Brigade’s
leader, called in August for Sunnis in Lebanon and Syria to unite against
Hezbollah, which he described as the “party of Iran.” The group has claimed
responsibility for firing rockets at Israel in the past.
This
administration always said that it was more important to do a complete and
detailed vetting of those that we wished to arm because they wished to do
business with only those who have a legitimate claim and not radicals. Others said he was wrong, naive and a weak
leader, wonder what they would have to say now because this article clearly
states that “It further reported that “In Lebanon, where political divisions
mirror those over the border, tit-for-tat bombings have killed scores in both
Shiite and Sunni neighborhoods this year, even as the fragile country struggles
to insulate itself from the violence.” Which should show that both sides were
acting radically.
