Veteran’s Physicians are Doctors of Death
Am I the only veteran who sees something wrong with
the way PTSD is being handled within our medical community? I must be because I do not hear any other
veteran group saying anything about it.
Imagine being somewhat suicidal or homicidal and then being given a prescription
drug that makes you even more so. Is not
this what is happening right now?
Imagine the stress felt during peacetime where you
as a military member is dressed in uniform and hear all that saber-rattling by
people who will not be dodging one bullet, thinking ata at any time you may be
called on to put your life on the line because some politician wants to make a
point. That’s stress but not one of the
contributors to PTSD according to our highly trained physicians who make these
determinations. For 3 to 4 years you
live with this possibility each and every day but that’s not stressful
according to them.
The times we are at war, you as a military member,
worry about getting called up and leaving your family and friends behind. Not knowing if you will return or not. Trying so desperately to find some hope that
if you do return, those who praise your name will be there to help you find
some peace and keep it together. When
you return and hear all this praise, you begin to believe that these people
really do have your back only to realize that it was all just plain parlor
tricks and you stand alone. The best
that they can do is giving you some drugs which will not help but delay. Now your desires, nightmares and nerves are
worse, the light that was there when you deplaned is slowly dimming and these
drugs are making things worse. Your attempts
to get some relief are wasted upon deaf ears because those with whom you speak
to have no earthy idea what you are talking about. They have not walked the same path, chewed
some of the same dirt nor missed a good night’s sleep or a meal but these are
the people who decide if you are suffering or not.
So they revert back to the only thing that they
know. If unsure of what you are really
dealing with, give them drugs to delay having to deal with that issue. Don’t worry about the side effects of any
drugs you prescribe because you will never be held accountable. You do not have to know what you are talking
about just listen and use this handy check-off sheet to make your
findings. That veteran was willing to
sacrifice their life for you but he/she’s still breathing so no big deal. Take two aspirins and call me in the morning.
