Study needed to determine the number of lives lost by Over-Reactive Police
While this recent story does not end in the tragic
death of anyone the message is the same.
Police over-reaction to a situation is becoming more and more
rampant. Officers, whose primary task,
is to serve and protect are operating like some hidden force with the legal
right to disrespect and defile anyone and everyone that they encounter. For pulling over people for no real reason
except boredom to getting away with violating the rights of citizens and being
cleared from committing blatant murders.
Now the simple act of going to the grocery store has
become a reason to fear. According to
the article titled “College Girl Attacked by 6 Cops for Buying Water, Now
Suing the State for $40 Million” found in the Times Dispatch, “A University
of Virginia student charged last year with assaulting ABC agents attempting to
stop her for underage possession beer that turned out to be sparkling water has
filed a $40 million lawsuit against the state and seven agents. Instead of beer, a friend of Elizabeth K.
Daly, now 21, had purchased a case of canned water from a Charlottesville
grocery. Daly said she was terrified when plainclothes agents surrounded her
car and banged on the windows ordering her to roll them down. After one agent drew a gun and another jumped
on the car hood, she said she panicked, unsure they were really agents, and
fled the scene in her car, grazing two of the agents. The charges were later
dropped, and her record was expunged”.
The only good thing about this is that adults were
finally visible and stopped this before it truly got out of hand. What I mean by that is adults had the charges
dropped and her record expunged but the question still remains. What about those where there were no adults
present or any that may have come in later?
What about those whose records will forever be tarnished because no one
wanted to admit that those given the authority to protect and serve stepped
over the line?
Someone needs to initiate a study to learn where
lives have been ruined by over-reactive cops and weak adults who see these
wrongs but turn their heads. If you want
even more proof of this travesty which happens more than reported just take a
few minutes and watch the show “Cops”.
Just one viewing will make it clear that rights are being violated left
and right without any accountability to those violating those rights and as
long as this is being over-looked, police will continue to perform as they
believe their bosses want them to and the respect that normally would come to
them for wearing the badge will continue to melt away. If you want respect, you must give respect
but then this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
