Rockford’s Rich Black History Being Buried

Rockford’s rich black history began in 1834 when a young 22 year old slave by the name of Lewis Lemon, made the journey from what is now Galena Illinois to what is now Rockford Illinois via the Rock River with his then master Germanicus Kent and a fellow explorer, later turned school teacher/farmer Thatcher Blake. It is also known that approximately 4 plus years later, Lewis Lemon was able to purchases his freedom from Germanicus Kent but that is about as far as it goes.  Very little else is really known about Rockford’s first black founder except the little that can be found about him in some of the old journals and books carefully secured in certain places and of course the fact that he was buried in what is now referred to as Greenwood Cemetery with an inscription on his gravestone that reads “Born slave–Died Free”. BREAKING NEWS-Predators in the Weeds

It appears that every single time, Washington does anything to help ease the pain of the middle class and poor in this country, some egghead or a group of them see this as an opportunity to take advantage and make money on the backs of those who have suffered most in our country.   When are we going to say enough is enough and start hitting back?   When will the middle class and the working poor stop being a victim and start reclaiming our mantle as more than just dollar signs with legs to those who prey on us? A Tree shall be Known by the Fruit that it Bears

I find it quite humorous when I hear people claiming to be one thing or another.   Claiming to be a republican, a Democrat, or an Independent but the thing that seriously bothers me when people claim the title of Christian and yet act like a total hypocrite. Hypocrisy is defined as “the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense” and if we are to be honest with ourselves and those around us, not one person can ever claim to not have claimed to be one thing while their actions depict something else.   I don’t think that any one mortal can ever claim that they have not fallen into this trip at least one time or another in their lives.   Because we are human, and accidents happen, it is okay to admit that we have faults and work to fix them instead of covering them up but of course many of us will go to our earthly graves pretending that this has not or currently happened to them. Hence the title of...
